Very nice Don!
I've had a smattering of CW parts over the years but never owned a frameset. I ran CW freestyle bars on my Dyno bitd and loved them. Those bars made scurfers a cinch!

I, too, was a big fan of the CW bars. I ran some on my Trick Star (actually, they were CW-type tioga bars) before I discovered Woody bars. I liked the Woody bars better overall, but I say the CWs were the coolest looking bars ever made. One man's opinion.

My opinion too, and I also ran them on my Trick Star, orange ones. I kept them on there though until I sold it to get a Haro in 87. Actually buying sets of those bars again on ebay about 5 years ago is what got me into this whole collecting thing we have going on here. It started off just buying the bars, then getting a whole CW bike, then the rest led me up to here. A set of bars came with the luggage rack F/F too. Woohoooooo, more CW bars!!!!!

Don, you got rid of ol' yellow ??? Seriously dig those luggage rack bikes though !!
I posted the RL club thread a few years back in response to a big old Hutch thread that was going on at the time...not sure whatever happened to the Hutch thread, but the RL thread is still going stong
Props on the C-dubs !!!
I have a 83 Z, and what I think is a 87 Shaker frame that I plan to build up someday...

Yeah, I traded the yellow one. I missed out on this luggage rack twice already and when it was offered to me, I probably would have traded almost anything for it. Now it's mine to stay.
Here's that one that was wrapped up all crazy. It's got different forks, seatpost, sprocket and stem right now plus a bunch of other parts. It really just needs levers and to have the brakes hooked up and it'll be ready to go. New pix eventually, here's one I had uploaded though from way back.

Lol, sure Taylor. This is a place where anyone can belong. (OK, that's from a song)
This pic was pretty much the start of my collection.

Where these are now. The chrome ones are now white and on that white bike up there. The black ones went back to Lou, and I still have those purple ones hanging up now. The green ones below that got powdered black and are the ones on the black Ceppie bike of mine, the pink ones below those are on my wife's Quad. Those green ones were really marked up and lots of the green was actually rubbed off and a yellow was showing form under it. I still have the other green ones on the top of the other side. I sold those other pink ones to someone on here who needed them. The orange ones with the green Mushroom II's are on my Trick Star and the neon orange ones under that I still have. I have others now too, this is a really old pic, and one day I'm going to put them all up on the wall like I originally wanted.

why OGK's and not tuffs?
donvader
Mar 17 2010, 09:47 PM
I had the OGKs for a long time and have been wanting to use them on something. I've had them on and off of a few bikes here and there but they didn't really seem to fit. I tried them on this one and liked it. Side note: One thing I just realized a short while ago, the OGK Hutch mags that are just like these are actually different in the hub area. Everything in that area on the Hutch ones are much thinner than the regular OGKs. Just something I noticed. Side note over.

the black cw you built is my favorite of any cw i've ever seen, it's too cool

is that the original finish on it? i've never seen a black one before.

Mar 21 2010, 01:25 AM
Thanks! Some did come in black, but this one was powdered. I had the frame/forks/bars/cranks/seat post powdered black. Then I drew the sticker set up in illustrator and had them made. Actually I've got the different bars and some A'me bubble font grips for it right now, but I have some new forks with lower pegs coming too, so when those get here, I'll be replacing all that. I've got a black ACS bearing cup with the cable stop for it too so I can get that spinmaster clamp-on cable stop off of there. It all won't look that different, but it'll be a little closer to that one main photo I was going off of.

Here's a clip from a CW ad from January '87 BMXA. I think they just started making them like Ceppie was riding his the year or so before at this time. Other than Ceppie's bike you never really saw them like this before this ad. Not that I can remember anyway.

As always, your bikes are awesome. You have a keen eye for design, my friend. It's crazy to me how many variations there are to any given CW frame. It seems they weren't even consistent from year to year!

WOW! I haven't seen a Luggage Rack in eons. I remember McGoo spent a lot of time making fun of those things... and he was the team manager. Now you need a CW "note pad" scooter. When McGoo first showed Andy Jenkins the CW scooter, He told Andy it was called the No Ped. Andy said, "What? Note Pad? That's a stupid name." Lew started laughing and from then on it was the CW Note Pad among the Wizard people and McGoo.
Then again... maybe it's best not to bring back the '80's scooters...
