Joking aside, I am looking for bargain cranks. I have seen some Easterns and Redlines among others for sale at a great price. I have been a Profile guy since '88 and wish I still had those. I have run across a few frames recently and I want a 20 and want to keep it cheap. Should I go for other cranks that are at a discount or just save my $$ and for tried and true Profiles for my ride. I don't care about period specifics with this. I have a F/A limo no forks and a few others (GT, Redline, DB) that I can build as well. I just want a good quality, fairly light, crankset that doesn't break the bank.

If you're a profile guy look at Madera Protocol cranks. They are made by profile and are cheaper then actual profiles. I think danscomp has them in stock.

I have always used profiles or redlines. For some reason I love redlines (older)

I saw a set of the FSA's on a bike at the local shop, and I asked the guy what he though (former racer, still downhiller), and he thought they were a good bargain. I'm thinking about the easterns myself

redine flights are like $90 at dan's, if you don't like the pinch bolt, there are a few options around $100, redline device, easterns, fsa

And, another 25, if you need the bottom bracket. I've been eyeballin' the Monsters, they're only $80 complete. (with American BB) I've got a '95 RL440 I've been looking to build up cheap, for a beater. Just need cranks and a chain.

That's because BITD everything came with an american BB, now there are so many choice that crank manufacturers would probably lose money piecing cranksets together with bottom brackets.

I am into both my sets of profile cranks around 50 bucks total, just watch ebay like a hawk. the monsters are a great option if you are wanting to buy brand new, they are a tiny tiny bit heavier but are bullet proof.
