I took some stuff to a guy yesterday to get powdered. He showed me a frame he did in black chrome it looked pretty good. The way he talked it sounded like what you are describing.

Haha, I actually have some black chrome parts in the oven right this very minute.

Until recently the best black chrome was achieved by chroming a piece and having it coated in a black chrome powder designed to look that way over chrome. Anything else and it looked completely lame.

One of the powder wholesalers I work with has a one stage black chrome that looks pretty damn good. It`s a standalone color that requires no base coat. Ask your local powder coater about *bonded black chrome*. It looks good.

The valve cover on this car is way more black chrome than that. Maybe it's the lighting on your valve cover.... what valve cover is that for? 4Ag Toyota?

I'm not trying to break stones, if that's how I came off, I don't wanna start anything, I am really into things like this as far as dipping stuff and getting things refinished, just trying to learn more about it that's all.

Someone on here done a few frames in a black chrome style and also a titanium finish. Both looked awsome.
I know Roberto (down here in OZ) does a finish very very close to Diamond Backs Turbo.
One of the UK lads might know too. I seen a few stories on Rad about Pro Class refinishes.

Found it.

Apparently the process is called Acrylichrome. ?? Thats all I got.

Any time you are starting with genuine chrome it`s going to look better. Anything else is a simulation, just some come closer than others. That valve cover was snapped under fluorescent light, which tends to darken an object and remove the gloss it may have. It`s a single stage powder that does a great job of simulating genuine black chrome. If you`re going for a hardcore restoration and must have the real thing, have the item chromed and get it plated in black chrome. If you`re building a rider and want it to look really cool, spend 1/3 of the money and get it powdered. There are also some paints that come close, but powder is more durable (and before the simpletons jump in on that, it`s provided the powder is cured properly. Otherwise it will flake off)

That valve cover in the link looks sick, BTW.

Yea I didn't know that was the process used to do it. That valve cover was done by a friend of mine in Cali. He does all sorts of finishing, from chrome, black chrome, anodizing, powercoated, rim refinishing, and 24kt gold..... I currently have a valve cover getting the 24KT treatment as we speak.
