Deanna
Lisa,
I like this new promoter hat you are wearing of late. Does this mean you'll be gating up too? It's a fund raiser after all.

I say the more the merrier and I know you still have it in you after seeing you and Abi from the UK throwing bows in the second turn at the disney cup.

It's all good. drinks.gif

i think the aba riders being better might have a lot to do as to where they live.

To a certain extent. ABA tracks in MN, IL, MO and a few other states don't have that "race all year around luxury" (except if there's an indoor close), but they have a nice sum a fast riders.

BigJeff said it best: It's the system.

As far as Schmick on the NBL board, who knows? Could he hurt it worse than it is now?

Who here on Vintage would rather see a "tickle fight" with Deanna and Meredith or "Bear knuckles boxing"?

I vote for Jello wrestling! good2.gif

If it were the "ABA system" then why is it that theres only a handfull of eastcoast riders that have ever become ABA national champions?

The ABA has three to four times the amount of riders that the NBL has so now you go out to your local track and "hot shot johnny 12x" who on the NBL side doesn't have anyone else in his class to compete or challenge him never really needs to pick up his game beyond the local talent pool. On the ABA side there could be six or seven hot shot 12x's within an hours ride of Johnny forcing his game to another level. You can even make that argument on the national scene for both sanctions. I think its the number of riders rather than the "system". BigJeff and I have had this conversation many times and I see his point but I kinda lean towards a per capita theory.

Schmick's never bashed rookies. National plates for rookies, yes, but then again, he's not the only one to do so.

I was on the news forum and have read his rants on rookies, plates for rookies, nbl , moto counts ,
it so sad that it gets took to that level of abuse on the kids and i guess that is why i take it personal.
We race both sanctions and around here the nbl has a much better show only one aba track that is worth the time to travel to and race.
I am sure schmick is a nice guy in person but on the keyboard he has it wrong, I refuse to beleive that he dont have a thread disscussing the same stuff i said above.

Once again I have to call bulls*^t.... Show me a link to a post anywhere on bmxnews where Schmick abused kids on any level and then you'll have a valid point.
He has many times pointed out the failure of a sanction that allows a rookie class rider to be plated as a National Champion and as far as nbl vs aba moto counts he just states the published numbers from both sanctions. Please explain how using these FACTS in his postings somehow makes what he says not true.

Yeah, but would they use the ABA cadence or the UCI random on the moon??, just asking

I hear the UMBRA (Unified Moon BMX Racing Association) has their own cadence... But, none of us Earthlings have heard it..

There's only a handfull of eastcoast riders that race mainly ABA. You sorta answered your own question. blink.gif

Somewhat true. The west is DEEP with talent, but there are plenty of midwest/east coast aba riders that does very well. You know why? They take the initative to go where the comp is = pushing em harder = making them faster. Here in the StL area, our local hot shot Jacob Sherbno 17-18x don't have NO comp at our local track. He has to hit ABA nationals (small and big) for comp. The only comp he has in the NBL are already bi-sanctional riders: Loebe, Fields and maybe two other guys. The other NBL nationally ranked riders in his class are motofillers to him. Sorry.. wacko2.gif

LOL! Yeah, this thread has a long way to catch up to my nothern friends thread.

Couldn't agree more. Women's Rugby is a great place to see a good competitive female match up aka fight if you wish to call it that. Ever seen Gina Carono Cage fight? Bad Arse all the way. Just because Women are strong and female doesn't mean we are gay or closet gay like someone has implied rolleyes.gif

When I started this thread I never intended for it to become another my sanction is better than your sanction battle.
What I was attempting to do was to throw the idea out there that what the NBL needs to save itself was an outsider elected to the board who would bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the table.
I mentioned Schmick because he is someone who could shake up things enough that maybe something might change for the better.

It's kind of like a "Bring out the Gimp" situation, I'm thinkin.

Amazing this thread went to a NBL vs ABA. Lack of leadership and team work has kill membership on both parts. If every person would spend a little time with their neighborhood kids building relationships you might see the kids return to the track.

Again I applaude BoB Burns for the hard work he puts into developing the local program.

It doesn't matter whether you race ABA or NBL, racing is racing. Level of competition has nothing to do with whether you want to be a champion or not.

A better question to ask yourselves would be what can we do to strengthen the programs so the Europeans don't pass us. I was dissappointed and American didn't win the first Olympic gold medal.

Wouldn't it be awesome to have a training facility in several areas instead of just California. Imagine Jeffrey Upshaw(OH) training there.

I made the mistake of practicing with my Sisters team (ASU Based) once. Nothing worse than having possesion of the ball with a bunch VERY athletic women with axes to grind cause your a guy (cheating boyfriend, whatnot) coming down on your azz. It was a miracle I didn't go to the ER that day.

That's cool. I knew there were a few Rugby players in here with a few fan's too. Mike Fields brings up Rugby from time to time although every time I see him I forget to talk to him about it.

I didn't get a chance to play this season and i'm not sure I will be able to again as my shoulder probably can not handle second row. Fitness is huge i agree. It's a nice change from bmx training to rugby where all i seem to do is run, run and run some more wacko2.gif

As you can imagine with a English husband we support England I love the old england when Wilkinson and Johnson were at their prime. I'm also a huge Sebastian Chabal fan, that guy is nuts.

I think Schmick being elected to the NBL board is about as likely as BMX and all mankind being wiped out by an asteroid on or before February 19, 2010. I would also, by the way, put about the same odds on his degree of genuine interest in same. Kinda like when Jello Biafra ran for mayor of San Francisco.

The difference=Jello actually got some votes.

It could happen...but I wouldn't stop paying my cable bill if I were you.

There is something to be said for a smart, savy, unattached hand on the helm. But, if it going to be saved from itself then Bags, Dinger, and the other board members elected last year stand the best chance. That said, somehow, someway the few, the proud, the WE, have to find a way to stop the bleeding. They have to work on gaining trust back from the tracks, and the membership, and fix what is broke yet keep what is precious (the intangibles everyone loves). Bags actually needs a really big, big broom. Quit raising prices on things, cut cost, improve your customer service, demand accountability from staff, improve accessibility, stop the lawyers (it is a lose lose) and always remember increase your revenue by increasing volume.
