Hi Every one
First post.
Just getting back into riding my BMX. I haven't riden around a track since 84, WOW! these new tracks are unreal.
Just wanting to know how rare, my 83 twin top tube Hyper is, as I cant find anything out about it and no other pics.
Am i the only lucky swine in the world to have one of these beauties?

Anyone have pictures of Jay Stark's Hyper? I'm mostly a freestyle guy, but I remember drooling over that bike when he posted it a few years ago.

I made the reproduction pads and decals for Jay Stark's white Hyper back in 2003. Only one pad set (in black) and approx. 20 decal sets (red letters with white outline) came for the silk-screen printer, and for which I still have the AutoCAD artwork. All the decal sets went to Jay except for one that had a defect and it is still stuck to a cabinet in my basement. I can email him to ask if he still has them (I'm sure he does), in case you need some.
I'll also ask him to post a picture of his white Hyper here, as he does not come to this forum much.
FYI, the top tube 'pad' is actually made of two bar pads, just like the Grubby One did on his factory bike.

Hi All,
Here is a picture of my original Hyper that I got back after over 20 years. I've also included a pic of the Grubber on his white Hyper which was the inspiration for the rebuild (it was originally chrome). By the way, this was considered the 3rd generation (with the round down tube), although the 1st generation was prototype only. The one you have is a 2nd gen, or 1st gen production - nice! My buddy had one of those and the oval down tube cracked at the head gussets. They moved the round down tube soon after.
As you can see, Marc did a killer job on the padsets and decals! Greg gave me crap for putting Son-Lite Turbo hubs and Aero-Speed cranks on the bike. He said he would NEVER use those....He was always a Suntour Superbe Pro /Campy hubs and Redline flights dude. Guess I'll have to fix that if he's ever going to talk to me again... ;-)

Hi Jay
Great to see some people remember the Hyper. I've always loved my bike and am very pleased to still have it.
My last post was a bit crap as what I wrote didn't come out.
Anyways, My F&F came with out decals but i saw an old add in a BMX Action that had black decals on so i copied them and made my own. Why does yours have red and white?
Spot on about them cracking on head gusset. Mine has a 5mm hairline.
I rode her around a track for first time in 25 years last weekend, I was recovering from MTB crash so took it easy, hoping to go to club meeting this weekend to race

They started coming with the decals (red/white trim) on your model. I have a few originals that were given to me by Greg Grubbs. He also gave me a great poster!
Do you guys remember the Dorus BMX Trading Cards?? Here was card 41 of 52 for Hyper!
By the way, that picture is taken while lying on his back on a black background (but looks like he is getting major air!). Billy Farrell's uncle was a ad photographer in NYC and they did a few of those "trick" pics for an ad they ran in the pubs back in the day.

I have about 5 extras of this card if anyone is interested.

Hey Tony
What about my bike- totally original from when I last raced it in 84.

In 84 or 85 I got picked up by a local team and was given carte blanche to order any bike I wanted. I picked a Hyper, but none of the mail order companies had any in stock, so I went with a VDC Changa.
I will kill to have either of those frames in my posession today.

Vorris made these[VDC],he said they made a batch of 25 for the first run,the teardrop down tube version. Gregg Grubbs said that the frame flexed so much, that they changed to the round down tube

I didn't even know they made them with a round down tube.
Are you saying that there were only 25 made with tear drop down tube.? I might have to take better care of it.

I'm thinking of putting my Hyper and Torker, both up for sale, so some one can take care of them, and I can get a new school bike.
Any one intersted?

Nice to see some other HYPER owners on here.
I was a friend of Billy's bitd. He gave me the orriginal prototype that was his personal bike which I still have, along with an un-built 2nd generation frame and fork.
The photos were actually taken by his father Bill Sr. who is/was a profesional photographer.
Billy was a great friend who was taken from us way too soon.

Thanks for message
Can't make my mind up. I've been riding it a far bit recently (after 25 years off it) and its been like coming home - it feels right. but on the other hand a new skool is calling too. Would i be able to race this against new skool bikes competitively?
But which is stronger the sentimental value of my old stead or a supposedly better new skool. Should I sell it for someone to show off or keep it for me to ride /race and enjoy my child hood again?
I went on a Koxx pro tonight and man was it long and felt awkward and poop poop poop, I say again, poop .
