Hey all. Please forgive my ignorance - I'm tryin' to help an old buddy. I'm a racer at heart. But my friend's son is into freestyle and street trick riding. He says his son keeps bending his rims. He's wanting to know a good brand, spoke size, lacing pattern, etc. Can anyone point me the right direction to help him out? Any good online guides? What rims do you recommend?
thx

Sun Big City rims, 14g spokes, 3X lacing. That will be a plenty strong wheel especially if it`s hand built by someone who knows how to properly build a wheel.
what is he running now? I would try either Odyssey Hazard Lites, Hoffman Generator, or, if he's a big kid and does a lot of big drops and lands super hard, Odyssey Midways.
Or tell him to buy a set of Alex Triple walls on ebay for like 20 bucks. They'll weigh more than the rest of the bike put together but bending rims should be a thing of the past.

Big citys are unbundable... lol. I run Rhynolites now... but yes, you can bend them. I wiegh 235, and I ride street and dirt and park. but, I have ridden for 25+ years, and I thin I am pretty smooth. so go Big City. I know there are others that might be lighter, but I dont know if they are better... I KNOW Big cities are awesome, and they are only 20 ounces... compared to 15 for some others, not that much.

I have been running Alex Triple wall rims forever, and was a bit sketchy on getting the updated stuff for fear of strength. I recently bit the bullet and bought a Primo Balance complete front and back wheel. 36 spoke, and double wall rim. Ive since been beating them up with 360 tire taps, 180s off stairs, cased a stair for some stupid reason, and the bike has been thrown a bit. The wheels are the same shape as when I got them. I hope that helps.
