The first few sets of tuff wheels were used by the original Webco Team as part of the testing process. Stu was on that team but I don't recall if he used the "early" Tuff prototypes. The earliest run of tuff wheels had spacing issues with the Bendix setup and they had to retool the first runs if I recall correctly. Mine were way too wide in the hub area. I believe these were being distributed around August of 1975 to our Webco teammates. A later version of that wheel was what was called the Tufwheel 1. After that, I never really paid much attention.

Last year it was an honor to introduce the Skyway fellows into the National BMX Hall of Fame. They were both quite nice and have owned the company the entire time.

The early, early Skyway decal was a bumble bee and had the letters....bzzzzzzz on it. I believe Skyway was also in the MX muffler biz at the time. I have one of those original Skyway decals still from those very early days. Good stuff.

Was there ever a wheel just called the "TUFF WHEEL", instead of the "TUFF WHEEL I" or the "TUFF WHEEL II"? Sort of like the first Led Zeppelin LP was simply called "Led Zeppelin" or the first Jaws movie was just "Jaws"?
