Rumors have been swirling since around 2005 that he died. I thought someone sort of confirmed those rumors a couple years ago but I can't find the thread for some reason.
Anyway, I've been exchanging emails with him the last couple days. All of his old bikes were stolen and he recently picked up another. I'm going to hook him up with a set of Odyssey RX-5 levers that he's been desperately searching for.
I told him about vintage and asked him to sign up.
Pauly
Ric just signed up and I think he meant to respond in this thread, but accidentally sent me a pm...

"hey to anyone that cares. i moved to phx az 5 yrs ago. family reasons and bought my first home.
i still ride flat land mostly but jam at a skate park here n there.i heard and seen posted lately that i was dead, not true. in fact im still riding at an ok level and would love to hear from anyone anytime.thx to RL PAULIE for extending his hand in friendship .i miss the hell outa all the guys, pro and amature from back in the 80s.feal free to contact me at ricknphx@hotmail.com .thx .ric "
Maurice Meyer
Man, I am so relieved about that. Feel really embarrassed about whatever part I had in it. I'm not 100% sure who I heard it from but I remember thinking "this person knows what he's talking about" and taking it as truth then passing it on in one thread and to a few people personally - one just last weekend.

Ric, glad you're still with us!

I have killer slides from a Mongoose show from the Bronx NYC show in 88. Marty S blasting 8+ plus, Kar Rothe cruising, and Rick A entertaining with the best Miami Hoppers in the business. Good times, welcome to this site.

I was very close to making a tribute bike base on that picture. Picked up a complete FS-1 for $25 a few years ago and that was the plan for it. Always sat on the backburner and I never got around to it and finally sold it.

Jeez, Paul that's crazy! How the heck did you find him? Great news.

That's the funny thing. He found me! I posted pictures of parts that I'd be willing to trade for a set of Redline STR bars. Next thing I knew I had an email from a guy claiming to be old pro Rick Allison begging me to sell a set of Odyssey RX-5 levers to him.

hi mattes !!

iīm glad , heīs still alive !

i rode shows with him and the other rick (canīt remember his last name .. scratch_one-s_head.gif ) for a couple of weeks in phantasialand and lived in the containers with them .. fun times ...

so rick , if you chime in , a big hello from germany ... i was the one who fell off the ramps platform after a flyout wacko.gif

cheers

andy
bravo_pro
ha , i just remembered the other guy from phantasialand !

it was rick coronado !

mattes
Hi Andy,

Mattes
bravo_pro
yes , thatīs right !

pat was there too and cara beth was a really nice person as far as i remember ....

wow , its been about 20 years now ... timeīs flying ... wink.gif

Rick was always one of the most entertaining riders to watch. When riding was starting to look all the same, you could count on him to throw in a run full of his individual style and showmanship. Great news for sure.
bmxric
hey guys ,ya in germany it was sean coons on skate board doing ground tricks,,carabeth berside on ramps, rick cornado and my self on ramps, pat anderson on ground freestyle and the tubling gymnasts.
also show was followed up by team fasmont(motorcyle family doing the globe of death).wow great times. germany was THE highlight of my career. i later did 5 yrs of shows at seaworld (san diego) and two yrs
at disneylands(californias adventure park)anihiem. i was so blessed with fun times after i stoped competing.
i never liked competing.all the guys i had to compete against were truely my best friends.it just gave me
stomich pains to have to prove who was better.so i droped out to just enjoy doing school shows for the say no program.and entertain at amuzement parks.
i cant express to all of you how depressed ive been over the past few yrs.i lost all phone numbers n contact information to all freinds after house got robbed. they got all my bikes n most my memberabilia.
so any pics n videos to just reliving the good old days on posts here means alot.i can download pics to my new labtop n would charish them.thx
also just wanted to say im touched by guys saying such nice things about me. i had no idea anyone even
remembered me.
like i said ive been thru some hard times and you guys probley saved my life.it was that bad.
im on road to recovery with familys help.but this burst of memories n suport means the world to me.
thx,ric

In a world fraught with bad news, it's always good to hear someone is still alive, especially when you thought they had died. It just makes things a little brighter somehow.

That's sweet! I remember a show the Mongoose Team did at Hank & Frank in Oakland. It was the first time I seen a firehydrant live. Ric and Karl were busting them out all day. I learned them that day. I still have the Mongoose Sticker that Ric autographed for me. Good Times! Ric is awesome.

Hey Rick!
Glad to hear your alive and bouncing back.
Here's a pic from the Hutch days that might give you a smile.

Looking forward to hearing more from you and your latest riding exploits soon.

Some big tricks I remember you pulling Rick:

Tweaked windsurfer...
Insane Miami Hopper variations...
That handstand thing where you always looked on the verge of going over the bars...
The surfer where you'd make it look like you were pulling a rope...

Wow Rick Allison, i think we might have rode together once or twice thru the years. I lost all my stuff also pics and all it sucks! Glad your doing well!
J.T.
Ric,

Glad to see ya online and it's been 20 years since we last rode together down at Newport Beach.

Here are some shots from the '87 Velodrome AFA contest including the Scorpion press.

Marty Schlesinger and I grew up in Minnesota and we transplanted to Cali. We've moved around a bit but we are both shreddin' still!

Great to see ya online!

Rick is alive but not well so to speak doing well
mtbmonkey
Rick is truly one of the nice guys in our sport of BMX. I had he pleasure of seeing him at a Mongoose show at Hank & Frank in Oakland, Ca. Rick signed a sticker and shirt for me. I put the sticker on my old Mustang. I really had a hard time selling that car because of that sticker.

Rick is a great showman. We can get caught up in all the new and latest tricks out there, but what Rick gave to the sport was CLASS. Alot of what I did was from watching Rick perform live.

I'm glad to hear that you are out there Rick.

How about we stop the rumors about him now?

Rick Allison kicks ass! Anyone who can ride street freestyle 80's way is cool in my book. I think there was a guy looking for people to ride with in Phoenix a couple weeks ago. You should look through the forums and you will find him. Might be someone to ride with?

Was not trying to come at you, I know what he went through and I have communicated with him. I was one of the ones who fell for the rumor a few years ago.

Its all good ant dog but he came out on Facebook and told the world what happened to him and its sad
The R
I'm pretty sure Rick came on this message board about a year or so ago and explained what happened to him -- and you're right, it was sad.

He's also been on the boards here within the last couple of months writing about how he's been riding and practicing some tricks. Most of the people here are not privvy to every detail and development of his life (nor should we be). We can only go by what he posts here (or maybe facebook), and from all the posts we've seen recently, Rick's done a pretty good job of moving on with his life. I think we all probably realize not every second is necessarily rosy, but everything we've seen here recently from Rick himself seem kind of positive. I think that's why Pauly asked UsBoss to elaborate.

There was a rumor going around until last year that he had passed away, and I think people just want to avoid that kind of rumor mill again, that's all.

In case you missed one of his more recent posts:

http://www.vintagebmx.com/community/index....wtopic=27050407

Of course, things change in the course of a month, but it seems like things are going kind of good for him based on that post.
