Hello from Germany,
I've got a mongoose frame, it looks like an Californian with the 82-88' dropouts and the serial number M6EE1482.
There are no gussets at the steering tube, but I don't know, what type it is. I suppose from 82...
I watched already the mongoose-site, but I cannot find the frame to this serial number
Could someone help me?
Many thanks and kind regards from Munich

Pics would help. It could be possible that it is a Blue Max, which were made by BMX Products and look very similar to Mongoose. They were sold in US military base and post exchange stores.

Its an 86.
If its Full 4130 its a California Pro.
If its Tri Moly its an Expert
If its all mild steel its a M1.

Well I dont think its the M1. Its either the Expert or Californian Im pretty sure.
If I had to guess I'd say the clues point to Californian.
But that's just an educated guess and I could be wrong.
No one seems to have weighed (on a quality scale) a Expert and California frame to tell the difference.

Thanks!! I also think it's a Californian.
What I wanna do now, is order a set of "Californian" stickers...
The frame is really in a good shape without any damages.
Kind regards to all

I assume when you say you are ordering "californian stickers" you mean the "orange-fade-to-yellow" californian decals - well unfortunately they would be wrong for this frame.
If you are doing an 86 californian it would have the "red-outlined-blue" decals on it and a "glued-on" aluminium head badge.
Also the californian would have had chro-mo forks in 86 so remove them from the frame and the steerer tube should have "LUNG.I CR-MO" stamped on it

Here is the era of frame / decals / head badge I'm talking about :

Here is the stamping on the 86 cali forks :

Hope this helps

Hello,
thanks for this informations!! I checked the fork: it's stamped with "LUNG.I HI TEN"
And I discovered a little stamp "07" on each frame-dropouts.
Is the frame however a 86 Californian???

If the fork is HI TEN and it is original to the frame, then it is not a Californian. Probably an M1, but maybe an Expert? I don't know enough about Mongoose to know if the Expert had a Chromo fork or not.

This frame was made in the Merida factory in Tiawan (M=Merida) in 1986.
From the pictures you've posted it's obvious that you have a Hooligan frame with RockShox forks...

oh, yeah... with a broken crank!

Hi guy's,
thanks a lot one more time! But apparently it's difficult to relocate the frame.
Well, I retired the (broken) cranks and these stickers...and it looks really nice. No rust, no dents or scratches. I'll clean it...and maybe start a restauration.
How much is the value of such a frame in the US?
I'm gonna post the new pics a soon the frame is polished.
Cheers from Germany
