Very cool! Thanks for posting these pics. sun_bespectacled.gif

In 1976, I was completely enthralled with all things Mongoose, Webco, Redline and DG. Those were the absolute best bikes back then, at least to me. I still get excited seeing them today!

One day, I'd like to build a kick ass DG from that era... diablo.gif

The Red Baron
Yep that's a DG alright. biggrin.gif

....but I'm diggin the good ol box bars. I raced my share of those.

I saw the first picture and thought "My DG3 was blue and I had chrome TX500 forks". The round bridge and solid bead gusset were later than 1976. The 77 S/N is a 77 frame.

REGARDLESS, very cool! Thanks for posting.

ok cool , how to id dg 2 vs dg racer
Proctor
Very nice...

I have one myself, and think its a 77.

Hey BenOr,

The S/N is 10....77....81
so does that mean it was made Oct of 77 and # 81?

Thanks

That is how I was told. I have an un-drilled 77 frame (11 77 4) and was told it was the forth built in Nov. 1977

If the color is original, it's a mild steel DG3. With TX500 forks (cromoly but low cost) it's likely a DG3. Everyone with a DG2 bought DG or Redline forks. I struggled to afford the DG3 and TX500 forks. But I had a DG!

DG3 $49.99 plus TX500 $22.99
DG2 $79.99 plus Redline nickle or Dg $29.99

Weigh it. If it's about 4.25 lbs it's Cromoly. Closer to 5 lbs, mild steel.

Kevin appears to have my DG's brother. See the link about all things DG.

Kenc and Procter are reading the early S/N's correctly. Later S/N's have yet to be unraveled with a decoder ring.

For what years would this be? I didn't think DG made forks until 1978.
vonmark01
he or his parents paid 800.00 back in 76 - 77
for the bike.......per. kevin the owner of the dg
vonmark01
bike was yellow with blue forks

its from Oregon
he raced at FUN RUN BMX 1978
Bret Patterson turned 16 and was a few ages older ..this guy was 11 at that time
they racer that track that day ..race was on the cover of bmx plus1978..kevin was there......way cool

He either bought that from The Bike Gallery or Action Sports. I raced Fun Run (Owned by Roger Berg of UNi Seats) and was there the day the PAtersons showed up. What is Kevins' last name? If it was yellow it is s DG2 cromoly.

I have lots of video from those races....
