Since I raced my first SSA season in 89 the Florida State Finals has all but one year been on the third weekend in May. I think it was 2000 or 2001 that it was the last weekend in May. They always do the third Weekend in May casue that weekend has the least amount of conflicts wtih Graduations and Prom. The SSA usually has their rotation of state qualifiers and finals figured out 1-2 years in advance.

Do NOT put a stake thru the heart of one of the big docrines of the ABA folk on here... that the SSA makes up their schedule dependant on the ABA.... or you will be fed to the drama turbines. How dare you.

Once again, I think the feeling from MN is that it should have been a national added but not substituted. Mn & Wi both have seen tremendous growth in recent years. As long as Reno & Chula can have 2! nats each, EVERY year, i see no reason why there shouldnt be one in Minn & Wisc.

Thank you my friend! This is what I've been getting at the whole time. I'm glad Wisconsin got a national. The Central Wis BMX facility looks really cool and I'm looking forward to racing there (budget permitting). I just don't understand why we don't have one in Mn? You're dead on about the growth too. Minnesota district 6 alone went from about 250 riders in '08 to 340 riders in '09. That's just one district! And yes I know Wis. has been picking up steam too. Huge props to all the volunteers, parents and riders in both states for making this such a great area to be a BMXer!

Like Trackdaddy said, lets ditch the politics and get back to bench racing. It's way more fun than all this bickering and antagonizing. sun_bespectacled.gif

THe SSA did move a qualifier once or twice on purpose and once suppesedly becasue they had to. They were close to working wiht each other and not schedling on top of each other, but the last time kind of upset the ABA. From what I could tell the final issue there was a conflict with the track and a locla soccer tournament. The ABA thought that was a lie to conflict on purpose. I know that the track had limited parking and if there was a soccer tourney that would have made it pretty impossible to park. I never checked into the story about the soccer tourney to know if it was true or fabricated.

At the same time the ABA has rescheduled races(in the past) to conflict with the NBL and vice versa. So they are both guilty of it. Since the new leadership has taken over both sanctions things have been a lot better. I think that the old guard had too much angst at each other.

Dothan, AL having an ABA national. Interesting. Isn't this a track that used to be NBL but switched sanctions after a bunch of whining over getting left out of the NBL regional/national mix after being in that mix for many years? I'm thinking so. Fuzzy forum memories of sanction wars banter as thick as flies on doo doo. biggrin.gif

You are off base on the reason the Dothan track went ABA, I will explain, though it has been explained on here too many times to count.... Dothan had a track book keeper who took all the money (over time) and made up reports and even bank statements to look like there was plenty of money in the bank, it was not until someone went to the bank to do an internal audit did they find out because checks bounced, they had bills to pay and the city was not happy that this had happened, the asphalt company was ready to do whatever had to be done to get their money, the Dothan people asked for help from the NBL, they were offered a very small loan, very little, but not enough, there have been nationals and regionals at this track for many years on and off, but the one year the NBL knew the track needed the help and funds they pulled the race, so the NBL group at Dothan had to basiclly bankrupt the association, this is where the new group came in, already knowing the NBL was not going to offer much, to keep the track open and keep kids in the area racing BMX, they had only one option, the ABA, who has been a great help and support.... Then when they went ABA, the NBL (Donna) wrote this funny letter the city of Dothan whining about it, even saying that the NBL had been there since the track first opened in the 1990's all the while the track had been there since the early to mid 80's, and the letter went on and on, but end the end, the city basically told the NBL we support the ABA and their efforts and the new group has our support, please leave them and the city alone, I am not sure, but I am thinking the NBL will never be back in Dothan..... I have copies of the letters and responses, so this is not hearsay, but first hand knowledge.... There were many who found out because we were possibly going to be called to testify at court, but she recently plead guilty in the last few weeks.... So, if you want to say that the Dothan track switched and whined, that is fine, but not correct, you are free to believe what you may, but if it was not for the ABA, Dothan would not have BMX and one of the best tracks and facilities in the USA would be history like many other tracks and that would have been a shame...... So, there you go, maybe this will clear up your fuzzy doo doo.....

Here is the link to the MN thread with pics of the track from our fall pre-build. Everything will be graded, packed, and tacked in the spring.

I'm really stoked to see the ABA come back to Hornets Nest BMX in Charlotte, NC. Perhaps one of the best tracks in the south east. Mark is the longest standing TO in our state and continues to set the bar high for the rest of us.

Mark & the boys will put on a great weekend, fa-sho.

Also glad my other good buddy Vargo will be having one at his track, too. I look fwd to making a trip up to PA for the first time for racing. Knowing Rob, I have no doubt he will have a great track & facility ready for a National stop!
