Dothan, AL having an ABA national. Interesting. Isn't this a track that used to be NBL but switched sanctions after a bunch of whining over getting left out of the NBL regional/national mix after being in that mix for many years? I'm thinking so. Fuzzy forum memories of sanction wars banter as thick as flies on doo doo.
You are off base on the reason the Dothan track went ABA, I will explain, though it has been explained on here too many times to count.... Dothan had a track book keeper who took all the money (over time) and made up reports and even bank statements to look like there was plenty of money in the bank, it was not until someone went to the bank to do an internal audit did they find out because checks bounced, they had bills to pay and the city was not happy that this had happened, the asphalt company was ready to do whatever had to be done to get their money, the Dothan people asked for help from the NBL, they were offered a very small loan, very little, but not enough, there have been nationals and regionals at this track for many years on and off, but the one year the NBL knew the track needed the help and funds they pulled the race, so the NBL group at Dothan had to basiclly bankrupt the association, this is where the new group came in, already knowing the NBL was not going to offer much, to keep the track open and keep kids in the area racing BMX, they had only one option, the ABA, who has been a great help and support.... Then when they went ABA, the NBL (Donna) wrote this funny letter the city of Dothan whining about it, even saying that the NBL had been there since the track first opened in the 1990's all the while the track had been there since the early to mid 80's, and the letter went on and on, but end the end, the city basically told the NBL we support the ABA and their efforts and the new group has our support, please leave them and the city alone, I am not sure, but I am thinking the NBL will never be back in Dothan..... I have copies of the letters and responses, so this is not hearsay, but first hand knowledge.... There were many who found out because we were possibly going to be called to testify at court, but she recently plead guilty in the last few weeks.... So, if you want to say that the Dothan track switched and whined, that is fine, but not correct, you are free to believe what you may, but if it was not for the ABA, Dothan would not have BMX and one of the best tracks and facilities in the USA would be history like many other tracks and that would have been a shame...... So, there you go, maybe this will clear up your fuzzy doo doo.....
