Full Version: Did this bike exist or is my memory all jacked up?

For some reason I think there was a bike which frame was in 2 peices? Like the rear part came off...
Of course, It could have been that it was painted 2 colors and the back part was a seperate color.

IF I remember the colors correctly, it might have been Black/Green.

Any ideas, I remember seeing it in old bike shop ads in BMX plus mag (possibly dans comp ads).

haro had one, also. theirs was neon yellowish-green in the front and black in the rear.

auburn had one with a neon green front, but the rear was silver/chrome (depending on material).

Hyper had one also. It was pretty rare and it was there first frame released. I am trying to remember the models name I think it was HPR-20. There was only like 40 made.

Yeah the Hyper was the HPR-20 for the production run and the prototype was the F20Z.
Racer
Yeah we (Hyper) only made 25 of the HPR-20 if I remember right, just one batch. The second batch of bikes we had made were the 1 piece Metro but my memory could be wrong. I think the back was always Chrome and the front was I know Black and maybe we also offered Candy Blue and Chrome front ends, but tooo long ago to be sure.

Im sure he was thinking of the Haro or Auburn.

I had an Auburn Pro 20", it was that bright neon green with the rear chrome piece...it was a pretty solid feeling bike, but I just didn't like the way it rode. Although my best friend did, so he had a blast on it. That was back in like 93-94.

Forgive my ignorance, but what was the benefit of the 2-piece frame? Looks like they would eventually snap at the bolts after time and continual jumping.

It was more or less a marketing gimmick so that you could change the length with different rears.
COASTY
Theres a kid riding a spray bombed Auburn around town. I've been trying for ages to get that bike.

I love my Auburn because I can gout of the gate fast with it. However, it is an XL sized frame, so its a little short for me now. I STILL haven't gotten it powder yet, but when I too, I'm taking it to the track. Like some other have said, I love how solid the frame is.

Yeah, that sounds gimmicky for sure. Are those frames durable at all?

Thankyou smile.gif
Still got plenty more to do yet but I'm happy with how it's turning out. I've always loved the pre 1993 Auburns. I also own a 1991 Auburn CR-20RX.
