Full Version: Question about Hoffman High Roller wheels

I'm having my High Roller wheels that came off my EP re-chromed. I was curious about the rear hub so I put just the hub on a spare bike I have and put the chain on and bolted it up. The hub spins great but the funny thing is that it pedals in "both" directions! Now is that just because it was upside down and had no pressure on it? Or will it still do this once the rims are laced up and I'm riding it? That would be cool if I can pedal in both directions. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

That is only because you haven't laced it up to the rim so there is no weight to keep it in place when you freewheel backwards. There were no "fixie" Hoffman High roller wheels ever made to my knowledge. You know one way to tell would be to grab the hub and hold it when attempting to pedal backwards. My guess is when you grab the hub it will stop and freewheel.

LOL. U know, I didn't even think of holding the hub. I'm gonna hook it back up and try it. Thanks for the help!

Well, My chromer didn't realize that they were aluminum and sanded to far down and ruined one of the rims. Anyone have a nice pair they want to sell?
pitbaldridge
wow , that sucks . sounds like your chromer might be a idiot . cant you just strip them and polish them ?
almasterb
That sucks about the wheel.

Have you looked at the new Hoffman Generator rims?

They look the same as High Rollers to me, with different decals.

Yea, I actually bought those Generator rims and put the original hubs from the High Roller's on them. Super nice rims! Great price too for double-wll, chrome plated 48's.

I didn't realize rhis thres was over two months old.

Is the EP finished? Let's see some pics!

Yea, I actually sold it. It was a great looking/riding bike! My son wanted me to get an old school bike though, and the only way I could was to sell the Hoffman. But I ended up selling it to someone from here that wanted it for their son as a X-Mas gift. So I felt better knowing that it's being passed on to a younger generation, and I know his son will appreciate it.
