In 1985 I bought a new green Skyway Streetbeat. After riding it for a few years, I put it in my mom's basement and moved out. Last weekend while visiting my mom told me to throw it out. I just couldn't do it. So now I'm beginning a quest to get it back into shape for my son.

I need a lot of help. I know nothing about restoring a bike. It's not trashed, but has been rode a lot of miles. I took one killer crash on it that broke the front fork and messed up the handle bar back in the day. The fork on it now is an unknown chrome fork put on at a bike shop back then. I need a green Skyway hotseat, seat post, chain, crank bearings, tires, break pads, grips, and maybe a new ez bar handle bar. I may even be interested in getting it repainted in the original color green. It needs a good cleaning. I would post pics but I'm not sure how.

Any help pointing me in the right direction to get parts would be great, or any suggestions as to what size bearings and stuff I need. Are these bikes worth anything? I saw some going for big dollars. This one is not for sale. I just want to fix it up for my son and maybe the old man will take her out a few more times.

thanks

Sounds like this bike has a lot of history. Definitly worth restoring. I'm no expert, but if it were mine, I'd strip it down, send the frame/forks handlebars (whatever was originally painted) out to get powdercoated. I just did a similar build to a Redline 600a. You can see my pics/story a few posts down. I bought most of the parts on ebay and the for sale section of this forum and it's supporting vendors.
Figure out what can be salvaged and what you need. I wasn't sure about headsets, bottom bracket's, hubs, spoke length, etc... so I just asked the sellers. Most of the time they were able to answer my questions. Yo can also post questions on here.
Wait till you get that thing powdercoated and a new set of decals... it'll bring back a lot of memories. I hope you have deep pockets biggrin.gif

If you can't find the parts here, check ebay. Good luck w/ your resto.
