Getting close to applying the frame/fork stickers onto my Redline 600a. Are there any tricks to getting them on straight? It looks like you only get 1 shot at it. I read that you can mist the area with soapy water to slide them into place, but that doesn't sound right to me. These have a sticky back.

I was going to dry fit them, then mask off the line as a reference.

Any advice would be appriciated. I only have 1 set of stickers.

The soapy water trick is rite. Mist the frame and back of sticker, get the sticker into position, then use a paper towel to start soaking up the water. Keep working the water out and soaking up with the paper towel till it sticks well. This way the sticker is in the correct position and no bubbles either, works well.

Thanks spence46, that will make it much easier. I'm going to put the fork stickers on tonight. I'll let you know how it woks out/post pics tonight.

Well, the soapy water didn't work at all, infact the slightest bit of water takes away the stickiness completly!!! I tried smoothing it out to get what little water was there out, but it had no effect.
So I used making tape as a guide and tacked them on loose so I could get it back up if I had to. This worked out perfect.
Still waiting for the frame stickers that say REDLINE SERIES THREE and REDLINE ALL CROMO. I had to get these reproduced at a sign shop.

Hmmm, thats strange. It has always worked for me, thats how I did my Hutch, helis, window tint, ect. Hope it didn't mess up any of your stickers.

Window tint and decals are different. They have a tacky back and need water to activate the glue. These are just stickers. When they get the slighest bit of water on them they loose stickiness to the point where their not even tacky. I should have known.

No worries, it worked out!

The whole point of spraying water on them is to take away the tackiness. This allows you to move the sticker into position when you place it on the chrome. You use the paper towel to soak up the water and then as the sticker dries, it sticks to the frame. I've been doing it this way on my bikes for years and it's worked every time.

Hmmm, I dipped my finger in the (slightly) soapy water and rubbed it on the fork and back of sticker. Very light coat meaning not enough to drip. Anyway, I put it on and it wasn't even tacky enough to wrap the sticker around the curviture of the forkand stay there. The sticker just layed flat. I tried pushing the water out but did't help at all. No suprise since there was hardly any water on there anyway.
Not saying your wrong, I believe you, just want to explain exactly what I did. Keep in mind that these are clear vinal stickers which are pretty rigid. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I didn't have any luck with the soapy water.

I use a mix of one part detergent to 10 parts of water, maybe there was a little too much detergent in the mix. I also use a silicone kitchen spatula to "squeegee" the water out from behind the decal once it is in place.

If they were reproduction decals the other problem might be that the clear vinyl may be thicker than original ones, making them want to spring flat.

Sometimes if you apply a hair dryer during the process it can bring the "tackiness" back to the decal.

I have put on numerous labels with this method (including Hutch Pro Raider which are quite long) with no problems and what it does avoid is the problem you can get when applying them dry that if you try to reposition them they can tend to stretch.

I'm not sure if they are original or not, but they are very thick.

Might try the soapy water technique again sometime. I remember the first time I tried it I thought the same thing. I got the decals wet, tried to put them on and they wouldn't adgere enough to even wrap around the tube. I remember thinking, "Well this SUCKS!"

But since I was already committed, I kept working it around the tube, pushing the water out and dabbing it up. After just a few minutes it stuck and the results were perfect.

Much easier to get them where you want them, just have to take a few extra minutes to get teh water out so they'll stick.

I always use a spay bottle with water and a drop or two of dish soap, spay a mist on the back of the sticker and the frame, fork etc. then use a rag and start working it from the middle to the edges over and over tell the water is all out! I have put nos stickers on my Carrera, Carrera II, Prostyler and it works perfect on chrome or powdercoating. It also always worked with any other repro or nos stickers just take your time, with soap it allows you to move it a few times before it starts to stick. Hope that helps!
