What spokes do you guys use on your show bikes? The spokes ive looked at the LBS here werent too impressive. They had stainless spokes but they weren't that shiny. They had cheap zinc plated spokes that were shinier but I can't see them lasting very long... Who makes the shiniest chromiest bling bling spokes?

some old school ashai spokes look good otherwise ive had few sets powdercoated they turned out awesome

As above, Ashai spoke do have a nice shine to then, especially if polished up a bit with a cutting/polishing compound before building your rims up.
All of my rider wheels are laced with Ashai spokes and they glisten in sunlight.

The daddies tho have to be the Ashai, chrome, double butted spokes.
I managed to source 2 nos sets of these for my pair of Diamond Back "Harry Leary" Turbo's.
Now they're in a different class all together.

I managed to source them here in the U.k, so I guess if you're in the U.s you may find it a little easier to hunt some down.
They're guarenteed to add a bit more class to your wheel-set cool.gif G.

Wheels like Super Pros etc came with genuine chrome plated spokes, who made them?
Or, do i have to take bunch of spokes to the local plater? Does anyone make/sell actual chrome plated spokes? I am curious too.

I go with Asahi for everything...!!! Colored, Chrome and Stainless.

My favorite...the double-butted stainless.

DT Swiss stainless spokes and polish them w/ mother's mag polish. Plated spokes will eventually peel. Polished stainless look like chrome and will NEVER peel.

Asahi spokes haven't been made for years, but... Wheelsmith bought the Asahi company and the tooling, they still make the chrome spokes you'd buy back in the day. Any bike shop can order them for you, and they are CHEAP. Like 20 - 30 bucks a box, and a box has more than enough to build 2 sets of 36 spoke wheels.

DT Swiss stainless are awesome too, but WAY overpriced.

Oh, and the Asahi/wheelsmith spokes are now made in the USA!!! They brought all the tooling and machinery over from Japan to Milwaukee!!! How often does something like that happen?!?! ohmy.gif

Hmmm... I've ordered them within the last year, guess the distributors had old ones laying around... bummer. dry.gif

Hey guys...I've ordered sets from wheelsmith also. Maybe about 2 1/2 - 3 years ago. I ordered 3 sets of stainless double-butted not thinking about actually trying them out first.

I still have them somewhere...the problem I had was when I tried to lace them...the bend on the spoke after it is laced through the hub holes was to wide.

If that makes sense...? They were bubbled out away from the hub...they did not sit flush after being laced. I believe that I couldn't even finish lacing a hoop because they did not reach the nipples.

So...I just shoved them into a box and never gave them a second glance. I will try and find them this weekend. I have a bunch of different hubs laying around...I'll give them another go.
