Very cool to see a Holmes with the Canti mounts. those look OG, are they?
Oldschoolfreak
Call me a noob but if OG means original then yes they are.
kcmobmx
very cool, you don't see many of the "special order" frames.
Steve Bourke

What stickers should I use? I did see these on ebay.

BEN
I may be wrong but isnt the first number the year and last nmbers the one built??? So that would be a 94, 504th made??

I didn't think the S&M serials had date codes.

The second set would be the correct stickers for that frame. I had the same exact frame when I was racing around 1994 and those are the stickers that were on it. It also had Canti mounts.

B&E-made S&M's can't be dated by serial numbers. But I've been taking note of them. Sometimes the first number is consistent with year, sometimes not.

The presence of canti mounts and a 1" headtube, put this in the range of 1994-1995. Are the dropouts one-piece or two-pieces sandwiched?
BEN
I dont know about all the S&M's but it seems that from the early to late 90's the Holmes and Dirtbikes the first number has been the year! It may not be the case all the time any maybe not on other models.
Oldschoolfreak
They look like one piece dropout's to me.

I wish I could say this is true, but it's not. Of the S&M's I've had in the last 3 years, here's a breakdown of Serials...
'95 Dirt Bike SMD8***
'95 Dirt Bike SMD9***
'94 Dirt Bike SMD4***
'93 Dirt Bike SMD5***
'91 Dirt Bike SMD3***
'95 Holmes that's missing the HXL and is just 7***
'94 Holmes HXL4***
'93 Holmes HXL3***

I think if anything, it turns out to be coincidental. Because less than 38% accuracy, in my examples, is hardly enough to consider serial numbers a definitive dating method. Decals aren't even that accurate either. More often than not, it boils down to geometry and construction techniques.
BEN
I have mostly had Holmes frames and only seen a few dirt bikes and that is what they all seemed to be, like I said I am not sure that was just what I gathered from looking.
Miko
That's just B&E for you. They made frames for S&M, Homeless, Brackens, Revcore, Badd and Company, and Hyper. They couldn't even keep the parts bins straight, let alone stick to a serial nomenclature convention.

I had a 1992 Badd and Co. that left the factory with S&M Dirt Bike decals. The drop said BCP2***. It had a 21.5" TT. So even if it had the right decals, it would have been the wrong serial. It had a Pro serial, when it should have had a Pro Long (BPL****) serial. The funny thing was, it did have a serial number that might seem right for 1992.

As I said, I think it was coincidence if they matched up to year properly. Perhaps, they had intentions to have serials make sense. They just rarely do.

That tells you it's likely a 1994 or later. They were still sandwiching drops through most of 1993.
