With three big races coming up (Disney, ABA Grands and NBL Presidents Cup, as well as the new 2010 season), it seems like we always have some threads in the racing forum focused around travel. Whether it's "who got the best Priceline deal on hotels," "what airline does the best with bikes," or someone looking for a BMX ride share to the Disney Cup, Vintage is always a great place to post that stuff and get some quick action.

But, leaving it in the general racing forum, it tends to get buried under the mass of regular topics over there.

Thus, I thought it would be cool to start a dedicated forum for travel-related information.

Enjoy!

Here is my $.02

I know some travelers with too much to spend prefer Holiday INN or Hilton. I like Choice Hotels mainly for the price. The choice hotels include comfort suites, comfort Inn, quality Inn, etc. They have upper range, mid-range and lower range. My first choice is to stay in a comfort suites, then comfort inn, then quality inn. There is typically a choice hotels in every ABA national city or near enough. Staying at comfort suites Airport for ABA Grands - $68/nite. Pool indoor and snack type breakfast. Not a lot of BMX types running in the halls, and cut ups, etc. Kids hate it - I like it.

Anyway, they have a point system and if you attend many Nationals or just travel a lot you can end up with a few free rooms each season.

good deal - Sam's club card = 20% off internet price.

We like Holiday Inn Express best for a good, middle-of-the-road brand. The best thing about it is that most, or at least many, if their hotels are fairly new. This means modern conveniences like larger bathrooms and flat screens.

No doubt that, when traveling with my family (four of us total), we save at least $20 per day by staying at HI Express because of the comp morning breakfast. So a $90 room is, all of the sudden, $65 or $70 (depending on how hungry I am tongue.gif). Add in a AAA discount and you can bring the $90 down to $80-$84 = a pretty good deal. Not "Priceline" good (where we got our NBL Grands room for $40 per night)... but pretty good nonetheless.

If you're looking for rooms for the president's cup, get the ones on Philips lane, they are right outside the front gate to the Fairgrounds. There are also a couple on Crittenden drive that are right outside the west gates.

Awesome thread, Anyone know what a good rate should be for the Louisville area hotels for the President's Cup?

Not sure about price, but all the hotels on philips by the front gate are like courtyard, and business travel oriented style hotels.

For the Presidents cup/Classic I would recommend the hotels located on Crittenden drive, they are all new and you can see Broadbent arena from the rooms.
