Anyone know if Haro is planning a new retro release?
I'm holding my breath for a retro '86 Sport. Black Tuffs and white brake pads, Wilkerson-style.

The last I heard, after the lackluster roll-out of the retro-Freestyler complete, Haro was done with the re-issues for the forseeable future.
Alan Cooke is the brand manager now, which is great. Not that there was anything wrong with Tony D, he was always good to me (although some others had issues with him).

That is what happens when you royaly screw up on something that people are so passionate about. As much as I lust after a properly done mid 80s Master re-issue I dont want to see it happen at all if they can't get it right. Trimoly...LOL!

Why don't they release a few parts that people fight over on ebay every day instead of whole bikes.
Everyone knows how popular Group 1 stems are, same with both types of Handlebars, group 1 cranks & chainwheels.
Even at USD 100 each i'd buy 5 group 1 stems in a heartbeat.

The demand for the retro stuff is not very high when u look at the big picture. So I don't know why these companies just don't keep it simple, and less costly, by just doing f/f sets? And like AlanG said, some of the more popular/sought after parts.

To add to what I wrote above. Haro did that retro Freestyler as a tri-moly (actually, only 1 tube was chro-moly) complete with crap parts (except the Skyway mags) And asked $500+ for it. And because of all that apparently didn't sell all of them, and the ones they did sell took awhile. When they could've just built a quality retro f/f (or even an original like SE did) and sold it for maybe $250 (or about whatever SE was asking on theres) And most likely would've sold alot more right out of the gate. Just my $.02
They retro'd the wrong bikes. The '83 Master (Freestyler) and the '87 Sport are classics, but I think the bikes that are most evocative to people are the '85-'86 models.
They would have sold a buttload of green '86 Masters and blue '86 Sports.
It's like GM reissuing the '54 and '58 Chevrolets, then killing the program because the demand isn't there.

You can still buy the 2006 Teal Sports here in Australia at various bike shops, so no wonder the interest from bike stores for the 2009 Master was lacklustre at best, which in turn caused Haro to rethink the whole venture
Here's proof
http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bikes/list?...5BorderBy%5D=-1Based on my post earlier, a re-release of the 1986 Group 1 bike would be my dream, I hate calling it a retro because that means it would be ruined with new school parts

I really dont think the 2009 Freestyler did not sell because it was a remake of the 83. It didnt sell because they promised the target demographic for the product one thing and then delivered something that was absolutely not what they had promised/or been told by the customer was desired. Hopes where high and wallets were at the ready when Haro was on here soliciting feedback from all of us and promising to make it a quality piece of BMX machinery. The 2009 Freestyler would have sold great if it was 100% Chromoly and was a quality tribute to the original.
With regards to releasing mid 80s bikes retros... I am an 85-86 Master guy through and through and there is still no way I am gonna support a company's endeavors to re-release those unless they are quality done product with respect for the original. By support I mean vote with my wallet. If the 2009 Freestyler had been done right I would have crawled naked over broken glass and sold a kidney to get one if I had to. I sincerely hope they do NOT release a neon green 85-86 Master retro if they are just going to do what they did to the 2009 Freestyler. Better to leave the legacy alone than to pervert it.

Yeah, I've since read a few threads about the '09 and it is kind of a turd. Too bad.
SE's retro completes are expensive for the class of parts they put on them but at least you get a good frame out of the deal. And they sell NICE F&F sets, which is what old farts want to buy anyway.

While the SE retros are expensive at least the components are good. The bars are chromoly, a tuffneck look alike stem, etc. I mean the fact they actually went to the trouble of making a 80s styled components (The lightning bolt seat, the 80s styled wheels, the tuffneck style stem, the new for 2010 Oakley influenced grips, etc) for their retros tells me that they actually put some thought into their designs and understand what it is they are creating for their market demographic. Lets also not forget considering the size of the order for the 80s styled components that it probably cost SE extra as opposed to just picking off the shelf available components. Haro on the other hand aside from the tuff wheels never really gave the 2009 freestyler the respect it deservered starting with the trimoly (LOL!) frame.

The type of metal used in the frame didn't bother me personally - but I can understand why people are upset over it.
To me it just didn't look right.
I sent them an email anyway, if they do or don't make another bike they need to know there's a market for the parts.
Instead of making 500 bikes, make 500 stems, or 500 sets of group 1 cranks.
I'd be willing to bet the situation would be a lot like some releases of cars in Japan (Subaru 22B perfect example) where they sold the entire run of 400 on the very first day.

Notice I said the problems
started with the trimoly frame. There was a whole lot more wrong than just that but if the frame had been right at least we could have stripped it and replaced all the components. With the version they released we couldn't even do that.

I'm pretty confident I can make it look a lot better than it is today, just like the one C4 did
What I don't want is for Haro to try make up for it with another release

I honestly believe that with all of the negative feed-back Haro received on the 09' retro freestyler. And add on the dismal sales. I honestly doubt we will ever see or hear of another planned retro project again from them.

Which is sad, had they done it right many people would have bought that bike. I mean SE's retro biz seems to be humming right along.
