very nice, the frame is probably '79-80,,,,,the slant stem doesnt have the original clamps, they look to be cebe or goose clamps, but still a cool piece!! hubs are nice, but dont do anything crazy to try and remove those freewheels, its simple if you have access to an air impact wrench/mechanic and standard freewheel tool....killer score!!
Paolo
Thanks guys. I thought those stem clamps looked a little goosey, but wasn't sure. What's the story with the BB? I've always thought they were the standard threaded euro type.

If it doesn't have threads good luck finding the cooks BB for it, thats what you will need, unless someone knows of another maker of threadless euro BBs.

As far as the freewheel goes, a couple peices of cut inner tube about an inch or so wide over the hub flange, a chain wrench (vise grip type) around the bands on the flange and a freewheel tool. Works if you don't have access to an inpact wrench

Damn, damn nice score, what did ya have to give for them?
KenC
To get the freewheel off, just re-lace the hub to an old hoop. You can bend the spokes to get them into the spoke holes. I have had good success doing it this way, just chuck the freewheel tool in a vise and use the wheel to spin it off. Those strap wrenches from Sears also works if the threads were greased before it was installed, just don't try and take it off by using the flange opposite of the freewheel, it will spin the center of the hub.

Those freewheels aren't coming off. You should just sell those hubs to me.

As for the BB, I had a threadless euro and I had to create a BB for it by buying industrial bearings and a 127mm square tapered spindle. I just pressed in the bearings and it worked. Check VBX.com for the bearings.
Paolo
Interesting about the BB. Is there an obvious benefit over threaded euro? Would any of the modern mid BB's work?

Cheez, I didn't steal this stuff from him, but let's just say we are both pleased.

Those are all great tips on the freewheel removal, thanks guys. cool.gif

I had to custom make the bottom brackets for both of my frames. Any machine shop can do it for you. Shouldn't cost too much.

I had a Cook with the press in brg's. I still have the spindle, brg's and one of the collars. It was missing one of the collars when I got it. I'd trade it for a correct set of Cook stem clamps.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the need for collars, which I found on ebay without much of a problem.
oc dave
Great score, you can also get those collars at your better hardware stores.

claud has what ya would need (masterstint) take the freewheel apart to lace it easier then lace as much as ya can the right way using both flanges so not to stress the hub . also use the bolt threw and bolt the tool to the hub and remove. good luck.
call me ill talk ya threw any problems

Great pick up. Well done. Shame about the clamps on the stem, though they do turn up in mismatched bits from time to time.
masterstint

end result in about 3 seconds:

ps- we got the freewheel off the sonlite also,,,0 problems
