Apparently, there is a resurgence.

I was watching Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory and he's planning on doing a pilot run of production hacks available at a few chosen...Walmarts...yes, Walmarts...but that is another story.

What is everybody else seeing related to hacks?

I read that DJ's Greyboy and Truly Odd are working on some prototypes with Ben Ward from Odyssey.

I noticed that "sidehack bmx" was #1 on Google trends last night. Thought it was very odd.

I'm not totally convinced on the side hack. I think it looks like a very awkward thing to ride and will probably result in some pretty big injuries from tip overs .

No April Fools.

10 Walmart locations at first, then more if they sell well.

And Sidehacks are not new, they used to race them in the 70's

You need to read more.
Lots of fun on hacks in the 70's and early 80's. I suggest you have a look at some downhill hack racing from Corona on the like. They are nuts.
This is the Impakt site.

I understand the concept of sidehack racing and it looks like a riot, but sidehack freestyle? I don't know what these guys are smoking to think these are going to sell.

I would love to see two guys launching down the Mega Ramp, trade positions mid-air and then get 20 feet of air off the quarter pipe.... Rad.
Faust Wurstkotzenhauser
I would love to see more sidehacks become available. Sidehack racing might generate more interest in BMX tracks aswell... it would be a win-win!
GFR Industries
My 13yr old was asking me about them after seeing them on fantasy factory .. he thinks they're cool and actually wants one !? huh.gif
Minx20
Obama showed interest in them as well as a way for current folks that ride bikes to work as a new way to "carpool" j/k biggrin.gif

I think they are sorta cool - would wonder if it is possible to make it were the "hack" could be removable?
TuRBo Todd Britton
I want one. I think my kids would be stoked! If someone has one near west MI and for sale/trade, lmk.
lakesullivanbmx
I will get two for our local tracks and rent them out this impact bike will sell to racers well over freestylers.

They (we) have been racing them for several years at the Roseville, CA ABA national among other races.

...and have been for years.

People need to know that Greyboy and Truly Odd didn't start the sidehack resurgence. They've been around for years. Mike Melvin also makes a bolt-on one. You can find him at Str8hackin on myspace.

We started racing sidehacks again in Modesto Ca at least 7 yrs ago. We would get 8 hacks on a regular basis every fri night. fun stuff for sure. Brought alot of people to the track for sure.

Raced reno and lancaster nationals at that time also

The part of the recent resurgence is a marketing ploy in my opinion.

Walmart hacks come on......
If walmart sold a plane would you fly in it???
GT_Pro_Performer
IMHO WalMart puts the HACK in Sidehack!!!!

You guys know that the Impakt /Wal-mart hacks run micro gears and are set up for "freestyle" right? From what I've seen so far, they aren't even marketing them as "race" bikes, but more along the lines of a alternative to a Razor scooter. rolleyes.gif

Do NEXT style BMX bikes get more kids to the track? Sorry, I'm not seein' it.

Actually a compact gear would make alot of sense on a hack, more torque.

I didn't find it on the Wallyworld site, anyone seen it there yet?

I did find this scary lookin thing

I know I am gonna get flamed for this but I thought of sidehacks as a cooky novelty back then. The same still holds true today. However if it gets some kid into bmx for real, then I am all in favor of this "fad".

"cooky novalty'? mmmm cookies

Naw the true Kooky novalty was tandems, they were very short lived.

Hacks ran for a number of years in So Cal, but the tracks evolved, became more technical and the hacks couldn't keep up. The speeds the hacks go today is slower than they did BITD.

I was lucky enough to have a hack in my garage for several years. My cousin had a bolt-on hack on a Mongoose with one piece cranks, coaster brake and mags. The thing was a BEAST and always attracted attention. Actually doing flatland tricks was pretty easy with the third wheel. The black spraybombed beast was always a favorite in a local parade.

We rode it around the track at Burdette BMX in Evansville, IN for fun. It was a total blast going downhill into a corner on a 75 lbs unbalanced tricycle with some idiot...I mean monkey...hanging on for dear life while trying to lean into a corner.

If you knew you were going to crash, your only hope was to jump clear of the carnage. Wrecking a 'hack was normally a mass casualty event that could test the limits of most trauma centers.

The best time was riding it on the street, until you had to go uphill... Have thought about calling the west coast to buy one again, but I think I would end up sleeping in the garage for several months after laying out the cash for a new one.
