I recently found a set of chrome Araya 1.50 wheels. I thought I heard they may be for the DB Turbo Lite. But the Turbo Lite wheels were 28 spoke and had rim groves. These wheels are 35 hole and regular 7X.
What where these wheels made for? Obviously JR/Expert sized bikes and small Pro riders may have ran this on the rear wheels etc.
But did they come stock on any complete bike?

you have to have a even number set of holes first off..28 or 36?
28's for the smaller guys.....
36's for bigger guys...
28's are found on jr's etc...yes they came on completes but for smaller riders..

They came stock on the DB F-1

About 1985 I purchased 36 hole araya 1.5 7x's in chrome. I did not see them on any completes. They were said to be just as strong as 7x 1.75's. They were also referred to as 7xn's or 7x narrow's.

I bought a complete set of new chrome 1.5 araya 7x with the redline/dk type hubs (36h)
just as a backup set of rims for my Badd and Co. that I raced.
Bought them from my local bike shop back in 1990 for 100.00

So I would definately say you could just buy them as singles/sets

Thanks guys. MXMug for a cartoon character you know your stuff. Reilly and I thought you only knew 70s stuff.
Thanks flapjack hubs are date coded 1988.
Yeah Jerry cmon give me some credit lol, been involved with BMX since 1978. Never left the sport. 35 was a typo. Then again maybe Araya was looking to do a 34 spoke rim. Then in testing they fealt an extra spoke was needed on the freewheel side. But after a board meeting at the secret testing headquarters deep in the jungles of Japan, they decided the 35 spoke rims just didnt save enough weight over the 36 spoke rims and the 35 spoke rims never went into production. The executive who came up with the idea of a 34/35 spoke wheel, lost his job and moved to Indiana. Where he would start a rim company named Sun in honor of his native land. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That's a hot one.

I ran a 1.5 for years on the rear.

Probably between 13-16 years old.

Always a 7x up front

Araya 1.50's are all I ran bitd and is what I still use today. I run the 7xn and on other bikes, the Araya 1.50 aero rims which are doubled walled. I believe all these rims came out in 83 or 84. Reilley is right about the Formula 1, I had one and that is the bike that got me started on 1.5's and I never looked back.

Some of the later Harry Leary Turbo's came with 1.5's too...

The Turbo Lite 1.5's didn't look like narrow 7X's and they had
grooves in the sidewall.

wow some good info. I saw an old ad yesterday for the Formula 1. It did have the 1.5s in smooth sides.
Ill have to look for some Turbo adds.
Now Im not so sure I want to sell em lol.
With my luck I will find a HL Turbo or Formula 1 a day after I sell em.
