Is it better to have two bikes or one? I have a race bike (it is Aluminum!) that I love but I also love trail riding. Should I just suck it up and ride my race bike at the trails or should I get another bike? What are some of your thoughts?

the more bikes the better. get a trail bike if you can afford it! wink.gif

This all depends on you and how you ride. Are you a hack at the trails or are you smooth? Will you destroy your race bike riding it at trails, etc etc.

I personally ride my race bikes at trails at don't even worry about it. I did this for quite a while with an aluminum frame and answer 1.5 28 spoke wheels with ti spokes.

I personally stick to riding one bike. I jump on another and I feel out of place. Having a 20 and a 24 is a bit different though. You usually ride both of them equally. I guess it's gonna be different for everyone though. If you can afford an extra bike, go for it. Try to have the setup similar to your race bike though (TT length, bar height etc..).

Is it better to have two testicles or one?

Riding your AL. race frame at the trails will shorten its life dramatically.

Not feeling that analogy, as I'd like to have about 15 bikes but stay at 2 testes. tongue.gif

If you're smooth this theory doesn't apply.

I say the more bikes the better off biggrin.gif

I actually have two bikes that are setup identical. One is strictly for the track and racing, the other is used for everyday. I just wish I got to ride everyday.

I definately prefer two in this case.

I have been riding my race bike at trails for a while. One of my concerns is my Dk Octane has a super low BB (11.2). On several occasions my pedals will clip an object (root, rock) due to the nature of these trails. It also concerns me about the life of my frame.

one works fine, the second is just for insurance reasons
there are however quite a few people out there that should have none

the same applies to bikes i suppose

Sure, but every rider will case or overjump something at least once.
Personally, steel feels better on the trails to me.

You need at least two bikes & with craigslist you should be able to get a 2nd bike cheap.

Dude, it's better to have like 8 bikes.

My best bike I paid like $215 shipped.

Well I like having at least two bikes. I have a total of 5 complete bikes that I ride. I have a few friends that like riding and they dont have a bike so I let them use one. Although I dont have trails to ride or even a local track, I still like having multiple bikes to choose from. Of course I do better on some than the others but it is still nice to have the extra parts if I need them.
lbielke
2 bikes.

They don't even have to be set up the same, just comfortable. I have no problems switching between different bikes.
tgap38
2 bikes...built as similar as you can get, with the beefier parts on the trail bike.

I am not sure how to upload the photos, but here is a facebook link. dry.gif
