Hey, I have a Jamie Bestwick (?) sorry if I misspelled, project and I was wondering what the dropout sizes are. I figured they are the usual 3/8, but I just wanted to make sure so I know what direction I will be going in with the project. Thanks guys.
aluv
come guys! let me know! I wanna get this project rolling for everyone to see!
mr coasterbrake
pretty sure those were 14mm.
aluv
For real? Well that stinks.
mr coasterbrake
you can get a few different styles of adapters to use 3/8" axles in a 14mm frame. i run coasterbrakes, so i have to do that with all my modern frames.
aluv
Yeah? That's something I'll have to think about. Why the 14mm dropouts anyway?
mr coasterbrake
just for bigger, stronger axles for grinding, and such. that's how most freestyle frames have been made for the last 10-12 years, or so.
aluv
Oh okay. Well I wish there was a little more variety of wheels out there. I know there are a lot, but I'm refering to tuffs. The only tuffs I've seen with those dropouts are in black. Of, I know, you don't see anyone riding with mags these days away.
mr coasterbrake
check with ED at coloredtuffs. he may have the adapters Skyway makes that come with the graphite tuffs. they are a bigger version of the step-down washers like some forks use to keep the wheel from falling out.
aluv
Sounds good. Are they expensive?
mr coasterbrake
i wouldn't think so. mine came with tuffs, so i don't really know what they might cost.
mr coasterbrake
also check flatlandfuel. they have some adapters under the "pegs" section that are the same thing i was talking about. $4 per pair.

I'm kind of torn on how to build this bike. In one way, I want to give it an oldschool feel, like a modern retro build. Then again, I know the proper wheels for it would be spokes, black spokes and rims, but.....that may make it look right, but also like everything else.
