does anyone make a sealed hub that will hold both a rhd thread-on freewheel and a lhd thread-on freewheel? sort of like a flip-flop hub, but with the two directionals instead of the flip-flop.

I am pretty sure Odyssey made a hub like this years ago. I know DK had a dual drive hub that was lhd on one side, rhd on the other side and with the adapters for the hub you could run 13-18 tooth freewheels on both sides of the hub.

I haven't seen any thing like since the whole LHD craze started...

a few companies did, but i haven't seen any in quite a while. regardless of what "brand name" was on them, they were all pretty generic/basic hubs - nothing too exotic or fancy.

If you are looking to make a dual chain drive set up, Haro made a hub this way in 94. I cant remember the name of the hub but it was haros first stab at a rhd/lhd system. I used one to build a dual chain FBM Night train years ago. The biggest issue with the set up is to get both freewheels to engage at the same time. Sometimes they thread up and are perfect and sometimes you have to wrench one a bit to get the timing right.

here's what i'm up to...

i'm picking up a ezip electric bike. their electric drive system threads to the left hand side of the rear hub. the only problem is their hub is a cheap cheap steel loose ball. so, i'm planning ahead for a sealed and alloy upgrade.

thanks for the info guys.

I'm not sure if this helps, but Eastern and Gsport both make cassette hubs that can be switched back and forth. (L to R)

You can also get an Odyseey Hazard wheel through Dans with LHD and a driver for regular cogs if the smaller drivers most wheels use is a problem..

Ditto.

I have an old Hoffman Bikes hub that did that. I ran an Odyssey 13t on the left side for several years.

is it sealed? 36h? 48h?

a cassette will not work. it must be thread on freewheel capable.

THANKS for the responses/info guys.

Yes it is sealed. It is 36h. It is also somewhat old. If I remember correctly it was called a Hoffman L/R wheel. It's got a 14mm axle and it's set up to run a small freewheel either RHD on the right or LHD on the left side.

I hope that helps although I don't know if they're still available.

Just did a little search and it looks like HB is just doing cassette stuff now. I don't know when the last time was that they were selling that L/R wheelset but I think I bought mine maybe about 7 years ago.

Here's one...maybe???
