...in the Ventura County, Ca area?
I've only been here for a couple months and haven't had any luck finding any BMX gear.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Probably your best bet is the head south on the 101 to Camarillo and check out Camarillo Bike Company. They have some BMX in there.

Website, www.camarillobikeco.com

Other than that, there are a couple of shops in Simi Valley, but that is going a bit farther down the road...

You can also ask Richard at the track in Camarillo if you need something special, that dude can get anything....

Tell him I said" HELLO RICHARD"

Pretty slim pickins down here too, really. There are a couple shops with some bmx inventory but if you're looking for a lot of specific stuff, good luck finding it in stock anywhere. Get parts online, get help building or fixing at the LBS if you need it.

I hear you!

We were lucky enough back in the day to have a man who had been in the bike business for 25 years, Sherman McDowell. He also ran the track, McDowell Downs. While he did work on all bikes and had several industrial accounts that were quite lucrative, the shop was essentially a BMX race shop. It was commonplace to see the latest thing in the BMXer or BMX Plus and go down to order it only to find out that he already had them in stock and in all the best colors as well! Try that today.

In addition to this legend of Texas BMX we also had ORP, Pearland Cycles, and Webster Bicycles. All these shops were also full to the brim with BMX parts and knowledgable, friendly staff. If they didn't have what you needed they would get it and often their advice kept me from buying something that I thought I needed and didn't. Today the only shop that is still gung-ho BMX is ORP and I must say that Chris and his staff do a fine job.

It's hard to believe that we are even talking about a lack of top notch BMX race shops but that's where we are in 2009. I sure wish I had appreciated the shops we had in the past.

I guess we are all the living embodiment s of not knowing what we had till it was gone.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I'll have to check it out; I'm close to Burbank. Incycle in Pasadena was really helpful with my build when I was having some minor issues, and they've got some decent stuff in stock. But nothing compared to Dan's/J&R.
