Due to the way the economy and the loss of jobs in the USA. I would like to get some donations to make a FEW complete bike's for a few families who just have fallen on hard times and who honestly cant afford a brand new bike. I want to make these bikes as like new as possiable. We willl figure out what families these go to when they are done, one at a time. These are going to children in need and ones who want to race and cant afford one. freestyle also welcome and would ATLEAST like to due one of each!!!

We are looking for cranks, frames, wheels, and misc, helmets, gloves, gear, jerserys.. all donations welcomed from business and private donations welcome.

If this is something your intrested in. Id love to do the leg work. I will ask Mike to come up with the idea. I just need to know if we have anyone interested in this at all? All donars will be listed when the bikes are given away.

This is a GREAT MORAL BOOSTER for the VBMX community!

Due to the economy and Joblessness of the USA. I would like to do a contest open to ALL people. I would like to get donations to do a complete bike for some of the people who honestly cant afford a new one, or join to be a site supporter to do the SBC contest, or anything to that nature. I would like it to be a complete brand new bike. Looking for anything from frames, crank, wheels, Misc... business and private donations welcome!!!

If this is something that may intrest you. id love to do the leg work. I will have Mike come up with a contest, but wondering if people may be interested first?

There will be a list of all donaters and I will even pay the freight to ship it to you if you are in the lower 48 states!!!

Nziegler@istate.com - email Mon-FRI or if you get my out of office message. baby due any minute, but will have laptop with.

a100dork3@yahoo.com- email weekends

thanks

Nick

I'll donate what I can from Standard and Goodtimes.
Rick

I knew Rick would step in. This could be a good on going thing. Come on people. Got to have extra parts laying around. just have to find the frame first, then we will work around that!!!

thanks Nick

not to put ricks name out there... (hint hint)
but why don't we start with a standard frame?
MOST of us already know they're the best made
maybe one of those killer ones that have been sitting around the shop a little to long?
eh?

I will see, but he has already gave up so much or alot of time and money for the other contest that custom frame will cost alot of time and money and design. This is something im trying to do myself. I dont want to keep relying on Rick!
nvmyslowride
anyone?
kcmobmx
not many of us (outside of the industry) have "brand new" frames, etc that they are willing to give away... I have some nice stuff I could donate, depending on the contest details but nothing brand new...
Criscobath
I have no new school brand new parts to donate. However, I do have an idea. How about opening a Paypal account where folks can donate $1, $2, $5, $20, etc toward the project. This can be an ongoing goodwill project and maybe the first bike can be code name "Project A". The next one, "Project B" and so on...or whatever, the name isn't important.

There also needs to be clear criteria for those to be helped. Example: Severe hard times, health issues, family loss, critical job loss, etc.

Once the bike is theirs, it's their bike to do with what they want. If they want to sell it to buy a kidney or a can of kidney beans, it's there deal and judgement should not be passed.

These are just ideas that came to my mind, feel free to ignore them or use them. I just know giving is way better than receiving, especially when it's difficult to give.

Bravo to nvmyslowride.
superjeer
Cbath has a good idea.

Do you want new school, NOS, used but in good shape? You'll end up with a franken bike. but, maybe with the SBC powder guy hookup it could be made to look good anyway.

I have thing like fly dR bars, haro race forks, brake sets, etc I could throw in the hat.. we'd need details on WHAT it's gong to be to know what parts we have would match the bike.

nvmyslowride
Both are very good ideas that we can look into. like I said this is a idea I thought about and could be a good thing.

let me know when and what is happening ,i will purchase something through nick from rick as standard byke /goodtimes store

anyone else have any ideas or a contest, parts to donate, that kinda stuff, so I can figure out what to work with here soon. I have a baby do yesterday, so this upcoming week i should have plenty of time to figure stuff out as we go!!

Porkchopzz4
Hey, count Porkchop BMX in - just let me know what direction you go with this first build. I don't have much new school stuff, but for instance, I can help in the below ways depending on what era bike you go with:

1970's/early 80s build: Tange fork (most are red but I do have some gold TRX's), chrome headset, set of tires any color (black, blue, red, orange or yellow), brake cable kit, etc.

1980's or early 90's build: Set of sealed bearing Joytech hubs, spokes, nipples (sorry, don't have any hoops - but if someone can send me hoops I'll build the wheels...)

New school build: aluminum 1 1/8" threadless headset, Coalition rear hub (Camo or White)

I've got a few thousand pairs of grips in over 100 colors/styles so I can provide the grips for anything from mid-1970's to present day.

Personally, I'd like to see this go to a deserving kid - especially if it's a way to get him or her into racing.

Let me know what you can use smile.gif

Justin
nvmyslowride
Maybe shoot for getting a few bikes together by Christmas? There are tons of charities that do the “adopt a family” or “adopt a kid” thing for Christmas? ALL OF US AT VINTAGE can be a part of this. figure out someone deserving of this thing Im trying to do.

call it the economy sucks build!!!
Custom
I might know of a coater that would be willing to coat a frame, be it an old or new one in a custom color as a donation to this project.
nvmyslowride
Thanks shawn!!!

now who has a few old frames? that just needs a special touch!!!

get a few others on board and this could be a great thing.
nvmyslowride
I have my eye on a 87 blue and chrome haro freestyle sport frame. Ill find out tommorrow. it needs refinished, but nice!!!!!!!!!

I also like the paypal donation idea. but since i have a account already set up i rarely use for private, do we use that or how can i make another since it has to be linked to a bank account. I just want people to know this is a honest deal we are trying to do here!!

nvmyslowride
Just got a email from a buddy brandon,

Hey bud, I have a mint condition 2001 hyper boxster pro frame I could donate. It was assembled and ridden once. Its anodized red, american bb (I have a new, sealed fsa I can include) as well as a seatpost for the frame.

So it looks like we have a start for a race frame for some lucky person. if i get the haro we can do 1 freestyle, 1 race bike!!!!!

So what does everyone think?

Criscobath
You could probably open another bank account, w/ your current bank, specifically for this use. Then, you could link your Paypal account to that account number. You might want to ask your banker what the ramifications are of using a checking/savings account as a pass through for such things.

Once you get that part of the thing off the ground, let us know.
nvmyslowride
I never really used my own. I just cashed it out, so I guess i can use that. or checks or money orders would also work too. but ill check with the bank. Im sure everyone should be cool. i have delt with so many people and there money on here through SBC, that i should by now be a trustworthy person!

Who ever donates money i will just put there screen name and a $ sign next to it and not disclose amount. The money used will be to buy from the companys who support on the right of us for odds and ends.

Combine this stuff with the frame I'm sending and we have a great start to a good race bike for a deserving kid. As I stated, let me see what else I have lying around. I know I have a few different sized profile imperial sprockets, possibly a set of black redline flights and maybe some wheels too. I will dig through the garage over the weekend.

WOW, THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN!!

Im glad I can help start this. My first BMX my parents made me work for and it was my pride and joy. that was along time ago. Now days times are super tough, im having a hard time myself, but this is something i enjoy. no matter how busy i am, I love to do stuff for other people. it is a very rewarding feeling. I have always had a passion for bmx, just died off through the years, and now im back trying to do what i can to make a impression and help others before I help myself. Giving is the best feeling.

I just got a call from someone who use to ride at rampage back in the day, and he said he is dropping me off some bikes and parts. Looks like we will have a hoffman TAJ, and he also said he has a complete huffy that looks just like a sta with rear 990's and everything. So far local wise I am getting alot of calls to donate.

Once i get the frames. we can decide on which to build first, and go from there.

If the calls keep coming in, this could make alot of kids happy!!!!

So I was down hanging out with Rick M at SBC tonight. And here he gives me a lightly used DK FURY this thread. Bike is very nice, pics were in the dark. Its green, has a few small scratches on it, just needs a bath and some cleaning and polishing to be a sweet bike. All bone stock

What do you think it needs justin, Just pads and a # plate to get it rocking? or should we customize it a tad? Might need a chain, been sitting a while, but I rode it some and it rides nice.

Hrm.. you asked about some Lime Green parts... but the bike looks Aqua in the pictures... is the color really Aqua? If so, I'm think we're going to be seriously clashing with Lime Green chain and grips.

If you're going to set this up for race I can send you some tires, grips, number plate, padset.... if you want to do gray as an accent color I've got pedals, grips, and pads that would look good.

solid little ride,a few little touches and its good to go,someone will be over the moon with that.
remember ,some arnmt as lucky /fortunate as us ,getting a bmx will be fantastic for them.
