YES! It's that time again...jump on your vintage BMX steeds, and head-out to the pedestrian bridge @ Lamar and the river. The gathering begins late Friday Sept. 4th, and the ride starts at 2AM Sept. 5th (technically Saturday morning).
This is the largest, and longest running BMX centric ride in the country. Started in 1983 by the Austin Cruzer Shop locals it has blossomed into an epic ride. It has inspired countless spin-off rides not just in Texas (were there are many) but to the rest of the country.
BE THERE. It's free, it's a ton of fun, and you will never see so many Cooks, CWs, Redlines, Champions, Kos Kruisers and other wild early BMX rides in one place.
I'll be flying in from the Bay Area....it's that good!

The ride is on a Saturday night/early Sunday. Always has been. Can't wait to be there!! I'm building a bike that will hopefully have its maiden voyage on the Cruze. All I am saying is that the frame has three bars.

Yeah, the ride chicken lickin' ruled. 2 Koss Kruisers, a sprinkling of other marques, a bunch of Fireman's (eh)...a crazy disc braked Cook's 29"er....and SMOKIN' Steve Styler...on his...(drum roll, PLEASE!) totally tits period correct POWERLITE 24" in a fresh coat of icy gloss black.
After our above exchange here on the forum..not knowing who each other were....on a ride with 500 heads, I rolled on Steve, and from behind and called him "the King of the Cruze" for having the sick Powerlite...not knowing who he was. Just on the strength of his sick build. He has parts on the bike from when he was 16!
Long story short, he recognized me from nearly 20 years back, and we spent the rest of the ride and night catching up.
chicken lickin' COOL.
He really outdid himself with this build, and I hope he posts pics...chicken lickin' bike is BAD chicken lickin' AZZ.
Will be back for the ride next year...on the Champion I first rode on the 1987 Cruze.
GET ON YOUR BUILDS, and RIDE the muthaz!

Thanks 4130 for the kind words about the bike. I haven't taken any pics of it yet. I will have some soon. The bike you were on rocked as well. Kastan in full-on nuclear red and were those Brand X Cruzer bars? A very classy ride. Running into you totally made my ride. What a crazy deal it was exchanging posts here without knowing it only to have a chance meeting at the Cruze. Glad you are doing so well.
Cheez, what dates are you going to be in town? I might meet up and have a little ride around downtown some evening.I work right acroos the creek from Stubb's in the Police garage. Speaking of Stubb's Motorhead is playing there on the 27th. I got my ticket!

Anyone have pics of the event? I plan to attend next year, as I'll be moving closer to Austin.

I have that flyer you did for the cruze in 92 or 93 kickin around here somewhere, I'll scan it when I find it.
Lots of folks spaced out and missed the ride because it fell so early in the month this year, it's usually closer to the end of September.
