When was the last time Moliterno was seen riding flatland, anyway? 1991? I think it he rode some in Baco 3.....
At any rate I was really surprised to hear about this new flat bike.
Next up, getting DMC back riding flat.

Don't know what custom frames run, but SBC regular production frames are priced competitively, even with asian frames. The notion of Made in USA breaking the bank is a myth!
Standard frames are significantly more than most asian frames. Not saying they are not worth it I am just saying they are a lot more. Your average asian BMX frame is around $250-ish, Standard runs around $400-ish. I like Standard and have always respected their quality above all ethos but you pay for quality.

YES... You do pay alittle more for a STANDARD, but you have a HAND BUILT bike and not a bike built By a machine in another country!!!

I would just recommend that the 990 brake tabs get located under the seatstays. Haro's new/retro original Freestyler had them above the chainstays so you couldn't run a small, contemporary sprocket. I personally didn't like that.
Actually it is very possible to run a 25 tooth sprocket with chainstay mounted brakes. The idea that you have to go to the seatstays isn't true. I ride a FLY Pantera and you can run 25/9 gearing and it has chainstay mounted brakes. Going to the seatstay actually decreases braking power just a hair unless you run brakes designed with a bend to accomodate it ( ala fly brakes) or the mounts are welded at an angle. Granted it is a small amount of braking power but it is some.

I just want to go on the record and say John D Bruin has been nothing but helpful and cool to me since we met. He has hooked me up a few times and not asked for a thing in return. I also know that John has given his blessing to a couple of outside project without getting up in arms, most recently the Nike "Trick Star" deal. I also don't think John would have any issues with me having Rick build me a modern day RPM custom built-Trick Star look a like. This is what I have wanted to ride for quite some time. A Trick Star with all the modern updates. John is working hard and trying to bring back Hutch in a new way, with respect to the old designs and that's a huge task. Ask yourself, how cool would it be to have a Standard made new TS or Pro Racer? Stranger things have happened. Woody
What is this "Nike Trick Star" deal you speak of? I am really curious. Not being scarcastic this is a genuine question.

True, there are many cheaper-priced foreign frames, but there are also many foreign frames in the $300-400 end. Plenty to see at J&R, Dan's Compe or Albe's. They're cool and all, but my next brand new frame will more than likely be a Standard, S&M or some other USA frame....the only problem is finding a dealer around here that carries them so I can check out frames in person, would be even better to test ride a built up frame.

I think Woody and I are the only ones who liked those rear standers, even if they were a little tough on the Vans.
Haha! I liked them as well. The material was a bit on the light side as they would bend and eventually break. Same with those front ends. They looked cool but would break pretty easy. They were good for the era though.

We haven't even finished it yet. We have been really busy with regular Standard production orders. I have the rear on, it still needs the brake mounts (under the seat stays, the removable gyro tab holes, and I may run a true coaster from time to time so a coaster arm mount. I have not decided on a color either. Either something real plain or something bling. Either way. I play with flatland a bit so this will make me ride that style a little harder. Maybe the kick turn ramp as well.

Aside from not liking the geo I cannot see how you wouldn't like it. Standard stuff is good quality. I have never personally owned one but I have had many close freinds who have owned/ridden Standard everything over the years. As a BMX nerd (aka one he has an obsessive interest in the construction, fabrication and design end of BMX) I can vouch for Rick and crew's quality. He doesnt let crap go out the door ever! With him offering the ability to custom build the frame you want I see no reason why you wouldn't want one, other than say the price. Speaking of price, nvrmyslwride asked what we thought the custom standard frames run but we never did get an answer to what they cost. I undertand custom can vary widely but a something along the lines of the frame Rick is having built, what does that go for? Ballpark.

Customs Can go from $450-UP, depending on specs, style, labor and materials, and color. But remember, you tell us what you want, and how you want us to build it. How many other companys offer that for every bike?

I think that once you get a proto built to Woodys specs,lLet him approve it as far as what he thinks it needs, and then give a base price. At that time you would have less questions (yeah right) and more orders. The only orders your going to get are the same sheep that bought those retro haros by the handfull because they were going to be worth big money in the future(yeah right) and kept them MIP.
I want to ride my bike. I think Woody did a great job on the original TS. If he approves a frame it goes a long way for me even before riding one.

Nick, not trying to be disrespectful to you, but JDB is a tool. Kappa made some awesome stuff and ran similar custom orders. Great stuff and I've never heard anyone say the quality was less than tops. For personal reasons, Scott Hice was slowing down/shutting down operations already when "high and mighty" JDB acquires Hutch and tells Scott he can't make anything resembling the likeness of Hutch. I promise you that Scott's stuff was much better than anything he'll ever make.
Now I'm speculating that JDB won't mess with Rick for the same reason he wouldn't mess with Nike. No cajones. He's fine pushing around small operations like Kappa, but he doesn't want to take on big companies or ones with strong roots in BMX like Standard.
I hope he doesn't say anything to Rick. He shouldn't. And these are undoubtedly awesome bikes, so I hope JDB doesn't make waves about it having the likeness of Hutch. Something tells me he won't.

Make no mistake, this website has a rep. Mostly due to a couple of members and a couple of moderators. A lot of venom flies around here and I wish it weren't the case.
I wonder if you could do what John has done?
If you had exclusive naming rights to anything, I wonder if you would just let the world take money out of your pocket?
As well, John approached Kappa with an offer to make the Kappa stuff legitimate, but got no answer. This fact alone proves John's intent to make good stuff.
Quality is not magic and can be repeated in multiple locations.
Rick's stuff is undeniably top notch and I feel like John won't do anything either. Much in the same way he wouldn't have come to defend himself, here with you. So I did.
I hope nobody minds.
