can anybody tell me where to find the serial numer on a frame I found? I think it is an S&M, but not sure what model. It has a 1 inch head tube and a gusset connecting the head tube and down tube

Normally 1" S&M frames carry the serial number on the outside of the rear dropouts, usually on the drive side but sometimes on the other side on earlier models. Let us know what you found!

I've owned four S&M's (one dirt bike, one challenger and two holmes) and the serial number has always been on the outside of the rear dropouts. Every holmes I've owned started with HXL----

also the dirtbike starts with SMD

the serial number has nothing to do with the year of production, its just a random number or a number in an order
