Full Version: I have a bent handlebar

This is not what I'd hoped my first post would be, but alas... I'm fairly new to BMX, so please bear with me. I noticed tonight that either the left side of my bars is bent down or the right side is bent up. I suspect the first option. I'm only racing, but... I do weigh 260ish. My only real question is, is it safe to continue riding these bars, or do I have to get new ones? They are chromoly Flys, if that matters. I only have about 2 months of riding on them. I come from the world of xc mtb, so I'm used to aluminum bars that become useless once bent. Thanks

If they are bent at all, I would get new ones. They will just keep bending in the same spot. If you try to straighten them, they will be weaker. If you keep riding them, I think you will acquire bad habits and then it will feel funny when you do get new ones.

Bars are not outrageous in price, I'd get new ones.

Just my opinion,

Thanks for making me see reason.

Yeah, in the light of day, I realize that of course I'll have to get new bars, if for no other reason than peace of mind. So I guess my question should have been, 'is it safe to ride on them for a few days until until I get new ones?' I've still got a lot to learn about going fast on the bmx track and I don't want to waste any riding time.
