Really?

No one?

Come on guys, this is Vintage BMX isn't it? With the combine knowledge of the members, everything one needs to know can be found here.

Last time I talked with David about this subject, Bill was still alive and living in So Cal. With what's gone on in the last few years on "name buying", I doubted you'd get much response to your question when it came up.

I'll bet Mr. Bastian could come up with something very interesting in this day and age. Theres a guy who needs to be interviewed or even invited to rockford to speak on thursday night for the industry talk.

Race Inc. was one of the coolest names in bmx. Product wise they just never came out of the 70's. Geometry and looks were very simular to the legendary FmF.

Do You Think He even Remembers All The Different Stuff He came up with?
Brian L
I read many years ago that GT owned the Race Inc name. I don't know if there is any truth to this or not, but that is what I read in, I believe, BMX Plus. Given GTs penchant for buying up brand names, this wouldn't surprise me at all.

Mark, thats a good question and I have a good answer. No. With the exception of Jim Melton, many of those guys really forget many details. At Rockford Stu tried to tell me he never rode a JU-6 and that my bike really wasnt a JU-6. He was so wrong it was almost a joke. Scott Breithaupt has told me numerous things in the late 90s only to have totally different stories today. Same goes for Jeff Utterback and Perry Kramer... all over the place when it comes to some facts. I cant blame them, that wa a long time ago and they dont "study" old school bmx like we do. I guarantee Bastian would have a crazy bunch of stories - thing is, if you werent there, how do you argue with the man?

Alex, I know some of the things OM Told me he even said He was Not Sure. But it's hard to say any different because They do remember it a certain way and that's all we have to go on. That Funny About Stu but what do you do argue with him or just let it be. But Some Of The Story Bill Must Have?? I would bet money you could never guess How many and to who things must of went to out of his shop. And The Different Way He Put Them Together(PK ,Round TOP Tube,FMF Dropouts With PK Serial # with Foiler Decals). I mean it could be thousands of combo's. LOL I also agree Jim Melton is the only one I ever heard of keeping that kind of records good2.gif
Race Inc dude
I think it would be worth the try. he would remember much and that would be a peasure to hear
bkquill
Well if anyone knows how to get a hold of him, please pm me. I won't publicly share it.

Cheers,
Brian

I didnt argue with him out of respect and the fact that it really doesnt matter. I know what I really have, he hasnt given a JU-6 a second thought in 30 years, lol...its understandable.
The Red Baron
This is in response to PK above;

...when I re-entered the BMX scene in late 06 Shannon Gillette of the ABA steered me to this site but warned me, "be prepaired that there might be people there that may know more about you than you do."

Now I am a small fish compared to Stu, and even though we were/are good friends, and we raced together in the 70s, he went on to race for many many more years than I did. I remember nearly every detail of my time in BMX. But it should be of no great surprise that he does not remember every detail. (I also see that PK acknowledged that it is undestandable on the whole memory thing.) Stu covered so many years, miles, trends, sponsors and every other discriptive word that would cover close to 20 years of BMXing, that it is like what PK also said,

The collectors here know what they know through thier own experiences and what they have found in print. If you can get some first hand info from someone who was there, all the better. If something does not quite match up, well then you just have to decide for yourself which one is correct. Mostly you guys are respectful, and that is cool.

Greg Hill and I have had many discussions about Stu's selective memory. LOL ...but it's all good.

Oh no, not at all. It's just an name for a new company, and Race Inc. is a name and logo that I thought of. It has history and we just like the name and logo. If Bill is willing to part with, it's something that I would like to discuss with him.

Linn Kastan kept the same sort of records. He has a journal of every Redline frame he built through March 1978 by serial number. It lists date sold and who it was sold to.

Dennis,
You're certainly an exception to the rule... no one has a memory like yours with the exception of Johnny Johnson. Neither one of you forget a single detail...

It's actually kinda creepy. wink.gif LOL

We also have to consider that Stu may have ridden one of the first prototypes of the ju6 just like the first str he raced was not even painted. There may have been a different feature on the frame stu raced and as a result he doesnt think yours is a ju6. He most likely would not have paid attention to any changes made to the ju/pk series after he got his str or moved onto red line.

I thought Reilly bought the name. He said something about pictures coming soon in some thread a while back.

So you are thinking of putting this logo on something that has nothing to do with BMX?

The URL is still available. Anyone ask Reilly if he really owns the name yet?
