That animal stem looks sick. My Thomson has been slipping and I am in the market for a new one.

Funny you mention that, I had a thomson stem on my mountain bike that slipped like crazy and have heard about this happening with BMX stems too. You'd think at the price they charge that stem would grip bars like a crackhead grips his rock stash. Nope.

My S&M race xlt has not slipped once and was about 20 bucks cheaper then a thomson.

I haven't hit anything big since mounting it, but I have run the old Animal Jump-Off in the past with NO problems... The details and machining of the ReMix really sold me as well.

Thats a hell of a grip

Try the Morphine Riot stem. I'm loving it, so so light. I've got the 60mm on my 125r, very impressed with it so far and a little bit different from the norm too.

hey nick
got any info on that list yet?
i got another person interested in getting his first standard, so hurry up before he blows it on a frame that stinks
21.5tt is the only stipulation

RICK AND JESS are on vacation this week. As soon as they get back we are going to pull some bikes and make a list of what we have. maybe start with 10-20 bikes at first and see how they go...Lots of bikes to go through, so give us a little time, and we will get it rockin!!!

Stickers are staying off the bike for now. I'm gonna put em on when the outdoor season starts up again.

I've also been busy working on this.

Next up for this bike is cranks, then a 100R frame.
mannequinforce
This is for your nephew correct? Those new profile mini cranks would be sick on a standard! Jusss sayin.
mannequinforce
Nick I need to get my bike chromed! Can standard help a brother out?

It's my nephew's race bike yeah. It started life as a bone stock redline proline expert. I've swapped out the wheels for 1.5's, the pedals for pro sized primos, the bars for crupis and a few other small items. I'm trying to decide if I want to get him a 19.5 standard or just wait a few months til he'll probably fit on a 125EX. Have to make up my mind there.

Guys its offical I am #654 in the NBL..... YAY.

That's funny I think I had that app in my hands at one time. I'm runnin #656 this year on either my cruiser or 20" don't remember off the top of my head. It won't be for more than a year though. Bwaahahaha!
mannequinforce
Those 125ex's look sweeeet. Definitely wait on that. You can always grow into a bike but it's a lot harder to make it bigger.

Here's to Rick and all who bring it at Standard.

My request was simple... well kind of. "Rick", "take my CW from back in the hay days" (you can imagine... a little bike shop sponsored kid from Iowa keeping up with all the big boys... insert showing up in the back of the S10 truck while all the rest arrived in rentals and team vans) "and mold a new frame, combining the new with the old."

Result... My super modified, Standard Custom Cruiser! Stu Thompson, Timmy Judge and Harry Leary... eat your heart out!

Now all I need to do is lose the 25 pounds of beer and chicken wings I achieved over the last 20 years and keep up with the younger crowd!

Thanks Rick!

See you at the track!

Everyone who sees it wants it, alot of people look at it at goodtimes, but dont open there wallets even tho its $5.00. Times are tough, and I understand. i cant change it and feel bad for people who cant spend the extra $...But thats what this bike is for, to sell and help the people who cant afford a bike!

Forks are the same weight as the S&M according to specs. I have both SBC & S&M bars here at my house. 5 pairs of S&M/FIT bars to be exact. Yes the S&M are a little lighter, but dont seem as strong, and dont feel as rigid as the SBC bars. The stem will weight just about the same as all of the others. So you will be gaining a little bar weight for bars that will last you for years. Nothing against S&M i like there products and they have been good to my program. I have a pair of OG S&m slam bars here that always were one of my favs, but I prefer the feel of the SBC. each has his own!

Since I see so many companies parts due to my program, I should invest in a digital scale and take compairisons. Alot of times manufactors weights are never right. Excuse my spelling, it has been a long stressful day..
joelwitte
ya, i agree, i like the strip bars (riding for 14 years) and have a set of slams (riding 1 year) i had to purchase against my will from last spring when standard was having trouble getting some strip bars for me

brandon uses the race xlt's (which i believe) are like 6/7oz lighter than strip bars, and i thought the forks were lighter by like 2oz's as well

the strip bars might be a little more ridgid than the slams in my experience, but i'm sure alot of others would disagree simply from the point that slams are everywhere and used by so many pros etc...

i do like the bends alot more on the strips as opposed to the slams, yes, to each his own

nick, do you possibly have or maybe one at the shop, have a frontload laying around?
been looking for quite a while for one with no luck

heck, even a used one
nvmyslowride
I got a bunch of front load stems, Just NO SBC ones yet. Rumor has it they are being made very very soon. Used SBC stems are hard to find....

(quote)

but i'm sure alot of others would disagree simply from the point that slams are everywhere and used by so many pros etc...

S&M is more "ADVERTISED" "MASS MARKETED" Then SBC. That is Why I think they are on all the pro's bike. And Like i said yes They are a very good bar also..

I have been reading every section of these forums for a long time. alot of people are switching over to SBC and it looks like the army is growing and making a huge presence here on vintage and all around..
joelwitte
tell me about it, few and far between for sure

so frontload are being made then huh? think maybe 2/3 weeks?
nvmyslowride
Trust me. you will know. The pics will be flying and I will be a selling!!!!
Brandon002
The only thing I don't like about my Race XLT bars is that they flex, if you pull back on the grips you can hear the number plate scrape the front of the stem. They are great feeling bars otherwise and I've had no issue with them. I'm all for trying new things though so I want to try a set of strip bars. I think the different back and upsweep might be more comfortable for me. I think the Strips have less back sweep and a tad more upsweep.
joelwitte

correct

strips 10 & 2
slams 12 &1

it is quite noticable, you'll either love it or hate it, i hope you like it though

i remember back in the 9o's though, as the only strip bar rider i knew of, that when i looked at slams they looked cooler to me cause the crossbar was just a tad bit lower than strip bars
of course the slams didn't look cool enough for me to switch though

That's the one thing I love about my S&M Bars, they are like the Ape Hangers of BMX!

and I just noticed that strip bars come with a 8.25" height. I think I'm getting a pair for sure now. That's the one thing I wish with S&M, was that they made the Race XLT's in 8.25.
superjeer
I love my strip bars. I'd spend all my dollars on them if I could ohmy.gif.

IMO you've found the right bars when you're not thinking about the bars. The last two sets I had the feel of my hands/wrists was occupying mind cycles. I don't have a lot of bandwidth up there, o the better the fit, the less you're thinking about it, the better off you are to think about more important things. Like, "where am I going to lay down after this lap?".
JBRP
Welp, just got back to the homeland..... and there was a box waiting for me in my office........now the box is destroyed.....sorry Rick....you won't be getting that box back.... Step 1) Tag Frame..... Step 2) Build Bike.... sorry only got to Step 1).....

Step 2) completed.....until a few gold accent pieces come in.......

Brandon002
It looks awesome.

Just so you know, Rennen is going to be making anodized chainrings. I have two gold ones on their way to me. Hit up George directly as they aren't listed yet, but they can make them.

I also scored a set of DXR cranks dirt cheap today. So my saints are getting swapped to bro's bike.
JBRP
I got a profile gear that is going on..... No DXR's for me... I love my saints... they lined up perfectly on this frame... Gold tensioners and bar ends are the last few things...

I love my saints too, but with the 125R I had to run the spacers all on the non-drive side. I know with the older model like your's you could run a good setup. I'm anal about that stuff, my brother isn't. So the saints are going on his bike and the DXR will be on mine.

Now to find out how much my local powder coater will charge to powder them black.
