Wife gave me the thumbs up today for my atomlab pimplite cranks, pimplite pedals and the wheelset.
I may just be a good husband and buy the atomlab GI cranks in black, pimplite pedals in black and run my sun's. What cha think? Still need tires, forks, jersery and im set!

Unless someone wants some smoking deals on some of my race stuff i was going to use.

Get the pimplite cranks and pedals and run your superstock wheels. Cassettes aren't worth it, if I didn't need them because of chain alignment issues I'd still be running my superstocks and white industries freewheel. Get wheels later down the road after your novice arse bends up the superstocks. smile.gif

I guess It's finally time to man up and start disassembling the Clayborn goodness. This is gonna hurt me more then it hurts the bike I'm sure. smile.gif

So Brandon, if I could be so nosey. Why are you ditching the Clayborn? I've got that itch again and after racing a cruiser for the first time in nearly 19 years this past weekend, I'm looking at putting a 20 together. You seem to be a wealth of information, so if I may ask; What's up with the so called "army?"

All you enlisted folks, please be kind worried_anim.gif . I've been out of the game for almost 19 years!!! I'm just curious to know what makes these things so good!

I love, love, love my Clayborn. It's quite possibly the nicest frame I've ever ridden. Great geometry, stiff and light. I just miss the feel of a steel frame and how smooth they ride. To be completely honest if Nick didn't get me a great deal on a Standard that was sitting around collecting dust at Goodtimes I'd probably ride a Clayborn for life.

I'm considering selling it, then the other side of me wants to hang it on the wall in the trophy/rec room as it's the bike that I re-entered the sport on and will have some sentimental value to me.

as for the Army, it's a part of what drove me to want a Standard. All these guys here that ride Standards are some of the coolest people I've met or talked to. They all seem to love the company, the products and there is just a clique type thing about the group. Obviously there's something to the bike if that many people bond over the things. I'm about to find out for myself and I have a feeling I'm gonna be pleased.

i know you've ridden standards, but when one of your own, it'll feel so much better to you, that the clayborn will lose all sentimental value and all you'll do is start collecting standards from now on

you can deny this fact..... but for how long?
Brandon002
I already have plans to build a 125RC so I am not denying anything. I love how my brother's bike feels and his is an older 125R, I'm sure the newer one will feel that much better.

I also scored a Thomson Elite seatpost in 27.0 for nothing so I'm golden. I have a pile of parts here. Come on frame, come on.

another question, do any of you guys know a place that does anodizing? I have a raw chainring I want to get anodized gold. Does Standard get stems or anything ano'd that I can use their ano guy?

you'll have to get one to understand, it is something unable to really be explained amongst men

without getting to girly about it, here's what it means to me and others that i know
its a brotherhood, an underground movement if you will, a pride within itself, a basket full of principals, and yet still a secret society to outside riders and the other "frame" companies that aren't able to understand it, those that wished they had the continous loyal following that rick has built up over the last (has it been almost 20??) years now

its a loyalty to rick & the crew for giving us the best with every frame line they put out and thats why so many of us never ride a different frame after we buy our first standard, i'm not saying there haven't been a few traitors, but these aren't the disposable frames like so many others out there

they're built to last, they're stronger than all, and they will take whatever you choose to put it through

it's the contant, generally unchanged perfect frame geometry that so many other companies realized after the fact
its the point that they've always been made in the usa, not overseas, and use stateside materals
they're welded by real people, craftsmen at that, actual riders that understand it as opposed to the you know who's
the craftsmanship on their products is second to one, check out the welds up close next time you see one, works of art
its the inginuity and innovation that they create, and then we watch others follow
a company that seems to follow the ideals of main street as opposed to the greed of wall street, growing slowly, taking over the bike industry one frame at a time, by word of mouth, by the shirt you see us wearing and the stickers we have on our bars
a company that actually listens to riders input in order to tweak and build the frames better for the right reasons
i could keep going but its 1am now
the name really says it all, standards are the standard

ya, unless something has changed they still ship their stuff out to get it ano'd
you'd have to call out there to see if you could use their guy or not, i don't know who/where it at

There is a anodizing place down the street from my job (Liberty Anodizing) but they do a minimum batch charge. Something like $96. Then, I don't know if they charge for each additional peice after the fact. I would be willing to get some stuff ano'd gold as well but I don't have the stuff yet. I wouldn't mind getting a set of DXR's gold and a Thomson SP gold. But I have to buy them first. That won't be until February or March.
Brandon002

Guys,
I advise you to avoid Liberty. They have poor quality, high prices, and unreliable delivery. We use Spec Plating. They are in Kansas City and The Twin Cities. Look them up on line. Nice people. Super fast turn around. Fair pricing. We have not done any small runs but what we have done has been flawless. If you can't find them contact me and I'll give you their contact info.

So... I start physical therapy this week... but the best news is that just one day after starting anti-inflamatory meds I'm able to squeeze the right grip on my bike with very little pain. Up until yesterday the pain was unbearable. I think riding is coming faster then I'd hoped and I'm psyched. New bike will be ready soon (hopefully) and I'm gonna be amped up from not being able to race for three months.
