I got a call to help someone out. I have a near complete cruiser we are building for a guy who has been VERY DOWN ON HIS LUCK, and is near homeless. He has been around BMX and skating for 20+ years and borrows computers to write cool blogs on bmx, exc...
So we are going to build him a bike and send it to him, it will be his only transportation. I am looking for a set of roller wheels/ tires that dont have to be the best, straight and useable. the bike is black, white and chrome and all redone with alot of new parts.
I could use a set of cranks with a american BB. I wouldnt care if they chinese 3 piece cranks, so i dont have to use my last set of redlines...
This is going to a very good cause. The bmx program is out of money (REASON FOR RAFFLE, EXC.), so I am looking for these as donations, if it comes to it, i could atleast pay for shipping giving you my acc#.
MAYBE SEAN COULD CHIME IN AND GIVE SOME INFO ALSO......
Thank you

MIDWEST BMX DONATION PROGRAM
Thanks so much for all the help from all you guys on this and sorry it has taken me so long to get back in here on this, been laid up with the swine flu for a minute.
They guys name is Steve Emig, some of you might know him or possibly read some of his blogs, the most recent can be read here
http://freestylebmxtales.blogspot.com/His history in this sport is quite extensive, he was a Golden Gate Park original, with Vanderspeck, Maurie Meyer, Petersen etal... he did many zines which got him recognized by the original Freestylin magazine crew and wrote more than one AFA contest article over the years, and for those of us who lived and died on that coverage in the 80's some of his writing has held a place in our minds for quite a while. He was eventually poop poop poop, I say again, poop canned form the magazine for various reasons which you can read about in his blogs and went to work for the AFA making videos and eventually was THE man at Vision producing skate and freestyle videos of contests and special events. In the 90's he lived on Chris Moeller's couch I think and was the editor on the first two, 3? S&M videos.
Steve fell on some hard luck, worked as a cabbie, lived in the cab, developed some serious health issues, lost all his video gear and world possessions and ended up homeless, blogging and writing from libraries and internet cafes. He eventually ended up stranded in North Carolina, 40 some years old 300plus lbs, living on his parents couch trying to put his life back together. Over the past year, I have read about this dude and his love for riding and the story behind how he got into it, what it meant to him, his personal beginnings. His story echos alot of our stories, what riding bikes has done for us, I really look forward to his rants and stories. I approached Nick about putting something together to help Steve out to be able to get around, get healthy, some transportation so the dude can get a job, or maybe just a way for him to get some humanity, love or enjoyment out of his life. If I could afford to buy him a bike myself, I would have done it. It has really been amazing how you guys have some out to help someone you dont know, but probably enjoyed some of his work over the years.
Anything and everything you guys can do is appreciated, if it is nothing more than following and reading his blog, clicking some ads if he ever has any, or sending extra parts like you all have done, it appreciated and it helps. It grows and supports the community and it makes me proud to be a part of it with you guys.
Thanks so much,
Sean Murphy
