In 1997 Standard Byke Company released the original TrailBoss, a thick and beefy bike built specifically for the trails. Over the years the TrailBoss was phased out as technology advanced and the original design of the TrailBoss was never really messed with.
Fast forward 12 years and add in the element of complete control of the manufacturing process and Standard’s full scale implementation of “On Demand BMX”, a custom order for every rider is now possible and the TrailBoss has returned.
With the options unlimited, Rick and the guys in the shop were tasked with recreating an original SBC frame that many, many riders hold the utmost reverence for; it had to stand out, it had to be prefect. From the beefed up front end to the OG slammed geo of the rear end, the new TrailBoss is a bruiser. The 2009 version is available with an optional 3/8″ or 14mm dropout and an optional Classic SBC gusset in the front. The new seat stays are tapered, where the original had straight 3/4″ stays.
And with all that added beef and slick custom work, the new 2009 TrailBoss comes in over a pound lighter than the original.
The first runs of the new issue will come with the same custom hand painted stencil work that the original prototypes came with. The 2009 TrailBoss is available in this version now through SBC, or with custom work .
SO WHAT DOES EVERYONE THINK? Alot has asked for it back, here it is!!!!

the thing i don't like about it is the shape of the dropout.
imo, a trail boss has to be half sta - half motocross. while the front looks good, the back doesn't look like a motocross at all.
i wanted one so bad but they were 999DM and i could barely afford the 660DM ng dirt bike.
btw, the 125r used to be 1600DM. i was still in school at the time and worked 14.5 hours/week at a grocery strore in the evening. made a whopping 6DM/hour. ended up paying 1150DM for the ng, 1 1/8" pitch forks, a rather primitive (sx-1, i think) headset and a redneck.
i think sbc forks were around 350DM and the sbc stem was 170DM at the time.

My PM
Hey Nick,
have to firstly say i am a big SBC fan, and I wanna give you some feedback on that trailboss pic you posted.. this pic does you no good service as the weld quality looks like cr@p.. i am not in the market for a trailboss frame (I'm a racer thru and thru..) but that welding puts me right off, send it back for a cleanup/QC department :
ANSWER...
This is Just a mock up (prototype) unfinished R&D bike. production bikes will be more refined and done to that close standard specs when they are finished. They have to start somewhere with R&D first. EVERY BIKE THAT LEAVES STANDARD BYKE is top notch when finished. The pictures were to just show what is up and coming.
Hope this answers your questions.

I love the frame. How about brake bosses on the fork too so it can be even more trail friendly?

SBC, Best thing to happen to the Retro Section since Kappa! PS Love to see what SE is doing also, but they need to bring it back from overseas and I don't see that happening. So my next ride will be a SBC TrailBoss Special!
