I have recently been looking (mostly just wishfull trolling of eBay) for a set of cranks for my latest project. I was thinking of keeping it fairly midschool and was thinking that some of the GT/Powerlite/Robinson CNCd cranks would be a cool addition. I found these and was excited because I was hoping for a 165mm-175mm crankset. That excitement died the moment I enlarged the picture.

What the hell is wrong with people? Please tell me that isn't someone on these boards.

These cranks were really flexy when in perfect condition. 165mm, drilled out to the point of being unsafe, must have been on a kids mini.

Those are the old GT show flatland cranks that came stock with the GT Show kit back in the late 90's. A friend of mine rode them for probably 5 years and never had any problems that I know of. The drilling is funny, none of that probably made a noticeable difference at all....

yeah..werent those cranks already aluminum?

Thats funny..Yes They are all aluminum, even the spindle...I stripped/blew the pedals off of 2 sets of them..but that was probably my own dumb fault...They ALWAYS creaked too...

I agree with Chad that these must've been on a kids bike. Flat land would've torn those up.

Drilling cranks out is one of the cardinal sins of the biking world. It saves very little weight, increases flex and exponentially raises the risk of failure. The worst part of the drilling is that some of the "weight saving" went all the way through the arm.

I feel bad for "High bidder: 1***0( 38)" for paying more than what the aluminum is worth as scrap.

I have an old set of beat Specialized Strongarm cranks in the toolbox. I am going to drill them out, smash them with a hammer and "heat-treat" them with a torch. After all that, they are going on eBay - just for fun. Maybe I will post pictures and links of the mayhem.
