I need input from all you out there on this, good or bad, ideas what ever, im listening! As most know ive been working on the idea of making jad frames and forks.Well the time has come to make the move if i want to make it happen. Im about to sign a big deal with a manufacture to produce them. My first concern is not to devalue the original frames and forks,i to have a few and dont want to hurt the value and everybody esles frames.Ive been thinking on the idea of producing them with some kind of small change to make sure they are not confused with the originals, possibly leaving off the seat binder clamp or maybe a numbering on them on the drop outs. They would have all the same lenght tubes and angles the only thing would be the deleted binder.I need to know how many would be interested in one.Im thinking 50 to 200 anniversary frames and forks with certificates ,possibly even handlebars in the kit.Guys this is everybodys big chance to get a new set!All i have to do is place the call and they will be in perduction!!!!! Lets hear it! Im ready SE did it, and other manufactures are doing it! PS i do own the name.......thanks all!!!!

Why not design your own frame and leave the past alone?

Update the geometry, add V-brakes, Make them 1 1/8" threadless. Don't make repops. If you want to revive the name, then bring them up to date. Like said above, leave the past the past.

There would be some serious animosity if you were to repop. Most of the JAD guys on the boards (and everywhere for that matter), wouldn't take too kindly to their already low frame production numbers being doubled. I am of that team where I would love to keep the exclusiveness that is JAD to myself.
That being said, it's your company and you can do what you want with it. If it were me I would stick with Doug's ideas listed above. Maybe add something to the lineup that could use more commonly used modern parts (I.E. disc brake tabs, interchangable dropouts, 24/26 inch frames, 135mm wide rear spacing, threaded bottom bracket, larger diameter seat tube.)
My only real suggestion would be to make me some cruiser bars and a MTB frame.Just remember that no matter what I have said in the past or what anyone here will tell you, the name belongs to you. Should you choose to ruin that name or uplift it, it is your company, not everyone else's.
Most importantly, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Just make sure that everything has a serial number and it should be all good...I agree, maybe have a american bottom bracket, or a threaded bottom bracket - that would be a good identification...Make sure the bars are somehow marked too...Like the way powerlite used to stamp their bars "PRO" or "expert" underneath where the grips went...I would say stamp a date code or a serial number in that spot...Same thing with whatever other parts you would remake (stems or forks) A date code/serial number on the steer tube and maybe some sort of change to the logo on the stems...
Keep us updated with what you're thinking...
Doug,
My OG JAD is 1 1/8" threadless and has v-brake (canti) mounts, so that won't help distinguish them...

I'll agree with Doug... Produce a new Jad. Don't copy the old stuff. Take the old concept and bring it into a new decade. Think about what today's manufacturers are doing with new bikes and bring that to the old concept.
If it were me, I probably wouldn't make any new... but if I owned the name and felt the need to produce a new Jad, I'd do it in a completely new way -- not just change a couple small things to tell them apart. A copy is a copy whether you remove a seat clamp or add a stamping. It helps differentiate sure, but in my opinion, it's still just rehashing old stuff.
SE did bring the retros -- but with much updated geometry and additions such as V-brakes. Also, SE, save for a few years prior to ASI's purchase of them, has been in continual operation and has been constantly evolving with the sport of BMX. It's their name and their designs that have sustained their reputation over time. I think they deserve to be able to make retro versions of their own designs.
In my opinion, you need to build up a reputation for the "new" Jad before you think about retros.
Again, this is my opinion. You're going to encounter opinions that fall on both sides of things I've mentioned here.
For me personally, if I owned the trademarks, I'd focus my efforts on protecting the Jad design and trademarks from ever being copied again. If I wanted to go into the business end of it, I'd probably keep it to officially licensed t-shirts and stuff, and maybe decal sets and pad sets (although still keeping them obviously marked as reproductions).
Just my $.02

I can see points from both sides. And liek they say, its youre company. But you would like to know if you are going to have people interested.
I think if you were to make noticable changes, that would help heaps. Like different style drop outs, possibly change the shape or size of the stays, make the seat tube a little shorter instead of coming up so high, definatly make it with a euro bb. And possibly use a intergrated head tube.
Would like to see the the cranks made using hollow technology.
For aniversery ones. I would love to see them made out of Titainium. I have contacts with a engineer who works for a major titanium bicycle manufacturer, who would make them for you.
PM me if you are interested.
ps i would definatly buy one if they are made out of titanium

'Doh! I'm not that familiar with OG Jad stuff. THen make them integrated or internal headset. Seems to be the way things are going in BMX right now.

I agree with all of what Josh has said...Different style drop outs would definatley be able to tell the difference...I agree with the sizes of the tubing as well...Warren are you going to be using the old stock JAD tubing or making new stock? Making them with a integrated head tube would be perfect as there would be no way to confuse them with 1 1/8" Jad's from back in the day...I know you haven't mentioned re-making cranks, but you could do what John DeBruin did when he re-made the aerospeeds and completely change the type of spindle...Possibly make it 48 splined like a profile spindle??

No worries Doug...Jad's were made with both 1" and 1 1/8" headtubes...They were in business during the cross over period...
Oh and I would be in the market for a set (or three) of reproduction bars as long as they are clearly marked as reproductions, like I mentioned above...

What about an aluminum frame?? All Jads were chromo an aluminum would definately be sweet...Not sure if it would stand up to the abuse though...

Ive read everybodys remarks, and rest asssured im listening!! As to the aluminum frame it is one very strong possiblity with yes a euro bottom bracket and yes a intergrated headset.Funny u guys are bringing this stuff up,ive been on the same page with everybodys up dates.Yes i have given a thought about doing my own company and have a unlimited fund!!! What about this! aluminum jad style frame, intergrated headtube, euro bottom shell,1/4 inch cnced dropouts.Fork the same way, mega tubes, maybe 1 1/2 tubing with cnced dropouts??????? Im letting u guys decide!! Keep up the imput,i would like this to be ineverybodys favor! If i didnt care i would just start making them identicle and no body would be able to tell if u have a true jad or not.BBBBBut thats NOT my goal !!! Keep it coming im listening!!! Ps a deal is going down on something for sure!!! Thanks

I dont think aluminum frames are a good idea. Especially if you keep the OG sized tubing and design. Aluminum doesn't have near the strength of steel. Not to mention that OG JADs ran one of the biggest
steel tubes ever used in the bike world. Aluminum, unless used for a mini/expert/show just wouldn't hold up.
Titanium on the other hand...
I'm not a fan of the integrated headset. I know they are becoming more popular but unlike many other bike parts that evolve, there was nothing wrong with the cup style headsets in the first place.

Titanium would be too pricey...A fork with some larger tubing sounds pretty cool...

Are you going to make any prototypes?

Very cool...Keep us updated...Maybe with some pics too...Even if you make the frames out of chromoly for durability purposes, I think that aluminum bars would be functional...

http://cgi.ebay.com/JAD-Pro-XXL-BMX-Frame-...3A1%7C294%3A200Cranks are much easier to find as ther were quite a few set produced. Does anyone have any production numbers on the cranks (recalled gen.1, gen. 1, gen.2 or gen.3)?
