Does anybody remember the manufacturer of the tubes with the all metal valve stems back in the mid 80s? They came with a nut that you screwed all the way down onto the rim, keeping it pulled all the way out even if it was flat. Sewups had this type of valve stems but someone made some for the larger sizes as well. I cant remember who it was
RCain
You mean Presta valves?

Still very common today.
MadCowboy
Back then there was only one company that made them for the bigger tire sizes in BMX. If there were more, we never saw them.

I could go with a new set if they look the same as the ones we used to use. This is for a special, personal build so the exact brand or as close to it as I kind find, is preferred.

Someone actually made all-metal Schrader valves? Never heard of them, but I'd like to see it if you dig one up.
bmxerpete
IRC made them for sure, they were common in Latin America and European markets.

I got in touch with the parents of my old racing buddy from back in the 80s and he's supposed to be moving back here in July after serving 18 years in the Army. His parents still have all his bmx stuff and Ill find out then. He most likely still has these tubes. Thats all we would use, except in cruiser. I dont think this company made them in 24s. just 20". We ran 20x1.50 in these tubes and tires on pro class rims.

We also used to run these Michelin tires that had tread like the GT tires from back then, except it had comp II style square knobbies instead of the GT knobbies. I believe they were the first fold up tires in BMX. I ran across a guy on ebay that had quite a few sets of these about a year ago, and now I cant find him. He lived in El Paso, so if anybody has an idea of who im talking about, let me know, please. wink.gif

I mounted them, but have done nothing else with them, as I was unsure of the vintage and put them on a wheelset that is newer (GT Mohawk hubs 20 x 1.5)
