not that i was ever a fan personally of their stuff, but as i came back to the sport with my nine year old son i noticed ALOT had changed
i've already caught up with everything that i missed except the whole GT issue
powerlite's gone, robinson is gone, auburn who wasn't really there is gone
GT makes a $1300 frame that none of their pros even ride, what frame is mike day even on?
when did the afformentioned companies go down the tubes and why exactly
to many new bike companies popping up? or just didn't stay with the racing end of things?
just curious

cliff's notes version...
all the brands you mentioned (plus dyno) were part of the GT umbrella.
first, GT was sold to some investors (who also had recently bought schwinn) in about '98. then those investors ran the whole thing bankrupt a couple years later. all the brand names were purchased in bankruptcy court by Pacific Cycles (yes, the department brand). Pacific has done various things with the names (some OK, some pretty $h!++y).
Pacific also owns Mongoose and Pacific's parent company owns Cannondale and a few other industry brands.

ya, i knew that GT was the parent company of all of them growing up in the 9o's
i thought that they maybe had to kill off the sister brands in order to keep the GT name alive as it was probly on hard times or whatever
didn't know it got bought out before it went under though, kind of a shame even though i never rode them personally
i just didn't know how or if all these newer companies popping up after say 95 on took them down or what happened exactly
why doesnt' mike day ride that ugly carbon fiber bike
i heard he is actually riding a custom frame made by someone else and has the GT stickers on it
anybody know about that?

At the Olympics last year, Mike Day was definitely on a GT. It wasn't the carbon frame. I can't vouch for what he's riding now.
