Hey there... new guy here. 31yo on my 2nd midlife crisis already. Just picked up an '08 OM and I love it.
Took it out for a street jam session yesterday and it was a ton of fun. Everyone loved the crazy looks of the colors and I got over 10 thumbs up, cheers, hell-yeah's, "fresh/dope" bike, etc. from lil kids to mailmen to 40 somethings and teenage girls (though I'm sure I got a lot WTF??? looks as well).
I'll never put a black tire on this bike! (though I may be changing the red to candy blue powdercoat and possibly switch the yellow rubber for blue).
Hey Todd, one suggestion... can you add 2-3" to the cable housing? Can't do a bar spin w/ the stock length (maybe just mine is short). Bummer!
Anyone else have problems doing wheelies on this? At first I thought it was the gearing but I think its the geo as I cant bust a manual on it (yet).

Welcome BAD63LAC. My '08 OM has a long rear triangle, for me. Had it over a year and still haven't managed a manual or wheelie. Don't care still love it. Got dirty looks from a biker on a custom chopper motorcycle 'cuz girls were checking out my bicycle instead. Worth every penny ! ! ! I've seen a video of Todd Lyons "manualing" an OM. I just gotta practice more. Alot more. Show some pics of your progress. Customizing your ride is half the fun.

What was the first crisis?
...by "2nd" I was being really, REALLY conservative. Good thing my wife puts up with my crap!
Motorcycles, dirtbikes, downhill mountain bikes, chopper bicycle, two sixties Cadillac's, skateboards, musical instruments. I'll stop now. Working hard but playing harder! Trying to keep ahead of this old-ness thing.
I'll post up some pics of the OM soon. Might actually take it apart in the next few minutes so it can head to the powdercoater tomorrow. I'm gonna go "stare" at it now and decide whether the red stays or not...

I had a '09 OM and now a '09 Big Ripper an with stock gear I can ride a wheelie on the Big Ripper but could not seem to on the OM.
Bunny Hops seem easier as well - both Sweet Azz bikes!

I saw a comment that Todd made saying he shortened his chain to run his back tire as far forward as possible. Looks like it wont buy much but every little bit helps I suppose.
My 3 day old OM is now in pieces and heading to P/C tomorrow. Should have it back Wednesday.
Just placed my order on Colored Tuffs website for a new gold decal kit.
Pics mid-end next week!

It DEF helped when I slammed the rear axle to the front of the dropout. The bike wheelies super good. When you get to that balance point, it just locks in. Try regular wheelies & then manual from there.
I shortened the rear end by 15mm, which is over 1/2 and inch. So it'll be even easier next year. Oh, and it'll have much bigger/taller bars as well. Cooli-O.

Hey Todd... sounds good. I'll give it a try. May play around with the gear ratios too.
Personally, I think the current bars are perfect but cant wait to see the new bikes. Decide on paint schemes for the '10s yet? Will there be only 1 OM or 2 options like '09?
For some reason my cable housing seems shorter than some other bikes I've seen pics of. Found some places that carry the Jagwire gold housing, so I'm going to pick some up and lengthen my housing a few inches. (cant currently do barspins)

Just dropped off the frame/fork at the powdercoater. Actually decided to get it done in a white sparkle. Going to keep all the gold/yellow bits on it.
Thinking of adding an '09 OM to the stable so I figured I didnt want two blue ones. Plus the wife is down with the white/gold combo so she'll cruise it sometimes too.

OK, here it is. Only one pic for now and it definitely does not do it justice. Will take some pics outside in natural light sometime soon.
Ended up going with the original plan and got it done in Candy Blue over Ultimate Chrome.
Threw an old school Aero seat on it. Gonna ditch the pedals. Also the chainwheel since its oblong and I can notice the change in tension as I pedal.

Still deliberating how it would look w/ blue tires, seat, grips... but I'm digging the yellow.

WOW! That color combo looks great! I would leave all the yellow it provides a very striking contrast to the blue.

Yep, sure is. The bars are MOSH (28x6). I got them at www.coloredtuff.com over there ->
MOSH cruiser bars at ColoredTuffsThe site says they are 6.5" tall but they are really 6" - just about perfect in my mind.

Loving the candy blue - looks awesome. Hey Todd - how about polished frame, chrome fork with black or blue parts for 2010?
Just put a chrome fork on mine.....
