These guys ( http://americancycle.com ) have good prices on a couple of parts I am looking for but before I buy I was wondering if anyone has ever used them before and if so how was the service, shipping time etc?

"This is our Redline Anniversary Retro Frame Kit. Redline gives these to their very best dealers. Thanks Redline. Sorry, its not for sale, unless you have $20,000 cash"

thats pretty convincing right there.

The internet's full of warnings not to buy from these guys. Do a search on here or bmxmuseum.com

ya i have in the past.. back in the mid 9o's
i just found out that they were still around so i went to place an order with them again, as they used to be a great place to buy from
i kept calling out there and calling...finally like 2 days later someone calls me back from there at like 8pm to see what i needed
the answering machine sounds like a house phone to tell you the truth

if i lived closer i'd stop by there in person, but something just seems shady about it to give them my credit card number... but thats me

azaussie
thanks all.

Here's what has happened- I placed the order late Sunday evening. They have a free shipping coupon that claimed to be 3 day UPS. I got an order confirmation order email on Tuesday. Thursday afternoon, I receive an email stating that it was shipped on Thursday, USPS. Weird, because that's not what I agreed too but, ok. Why it took nearly 4 business days to organize my order, pack and ship I'll never know. I can understand if an item or 2 was out of stock but enroute, but feel they should have emailed me. Afterall, these guys are in the business of selling and shipping parts.

Sunday afternoon I placed an order through an Ebay store, Cycle4less, and it showed up Tuesday afternoon, shipped USPS priority. Those parts were coming from LA, which is only a 5 hour drive away, so I can understand why it was so fast. I'm also sure some packed that order Sunday evening or early Monday and they mailed it right away. Definitely a big +1 for Cycle4less, who also has some pretty decent prices on some items, not all, but some. I really needed some yellow DX-style pedals to complete a build and they were the only people I could find who had them and a reasonable price.

It's because, seemingly, they don't typically stock what they have on their site. They appear to list everything their distributor has (regardless, it seems, to weather or not the dist. has it in stock) and have it shipped to them, then re-ship to you. They've been alleged to substitute, at their digression, parts they can't get in that people have ordered and then make YOU pay shipping back and forth to fix the problem, if possible. They have a terrible reputation. It's sad because, for me, they're a LBS. But even in person they're unreliable and disrespectful to deal with, in my experience.

Some stuff showed up today. The Primo V-Track 1.5's, sprocket and Haro mini seats I ordered (5 items total) didn't make it yet. A little form letter about saving the enviroment and a hand written note to call "Joe" about the back ordered items was inside. They substituted 3mm silver stem spacers for black 5mm's and for some strange reason I got red valve caps that I didn't order. Somehow the box containing the chain came open and the chain was knocking around in the box. Another oddity, the box had a return address for TIP on it under the American Cycle packing slip, so it looks like these items came straight from TIP to ACE, then to me. If they would have drop shipped from TIP it would easily been here last week.

On the plus side, they gave me a ton of stickers. Everything but the chain was well packed. I have some red valve caps now so I guess I need to do a build using red now, lol. The Sinz mini brakes I ordered thinking were just the brakes turned out to be the whole kit, lever, cable and pads so that's kind of cool. I'm not sure if they misdescribed the item or I got lucky. Depending on how long it takes for the other items (I haven't called Joe, it's not like he can make them appear any faster) will make my decision to do any further business with them.

I could go another route with the seats, but I really need the tires to finish my son's jr. cruiser. To save a little money, he's using some old rims of mine (Weinmann 1.5's with Diamonback hubs) till I can buy some snazzier wheels. Currently they have a Specialized 2.1 on the front one and a 2.125 micro knobby on the back (yes, they look like balloon tires but they were fun for jumping). I have one, fairly worn 1.5 micro knobby laying around so I guess for now that'll work. We are on a budget, but I'm thinking about some yellow Vuelta 24x1 3/8ths rims laced to a set of black GT Mohawk 32's that I have seen for sale at Cycle4less. Otherwise, we'll go black somethings with Odyssey jr. race cassettes. This bike is a blue FMF jr cruiser (chromoly) w/ black FMF forks. So far it has a black Redline frontload mini stem, black RL seatpost clamp, Black FMF cranks, yellow Wellgo platforms, black Sinz mini brakes, yellow Sinz cable, yellow KMC chain and I'm going to paint some RL jr bars yellow and since they sent me silver stem spacers, I'm just going to paint them yellow too. I'll get pics up when it's done.

Does anyone know where I can find yellow chainning ring bolts? I know they'd look slick, but I can't find them. I guess I could paint those too.
superjeer
I think I just saw some yellow bolts on ebay.

I'll take your red valve caps for this:

It had chrome caps with glassish green tops.. which I just put on this...

I hope you get your stuff from ACE.

So my tires and chainwheel showed up around 6pm on July 14, but no seat/seatposts. Very frustrating. This time, no letter of explanantion. This order did come UPS. The shipping label underneath ACE's was from a Minnessota-based distributor. No extra stickers either. I definitely will never do business with ACE again.

That's really too bad. I want so bad for these guys to get it right. It's upsetting to have a full bmx shop so close that I just can't use.
omartcruisers
Fortunately I had an old 7/8ths chrome post and a beat up GT slim seat laying around so I was able to build the FMF up so he can ride it. It looks stupid with such a big seat and a chrome post, but it's the best I can right now. I ordered 3 Haro mini seat/seatpost combos one for his Elf and one for the FMF. I guess they'll show up around the time he's ready for a pro sized bike.
joelwitte
didn't you get 3 day shipping from these fools??
i'd send it all back in as many shipments as they sent it to you and get a refund on everything including all the shipping
then get it from a dealer that actually sells parts, instead of taking your money AND THEN buying the parts from their disto and then shipping it out to you
what a joke
