Somehow during my rebuild of an early (pre-80) Mongoose Motomag I discovered that the crank sprocket is a snowflake 40 tooth as opposed to the 44 tooth sprocket. Mine is stamped "Mongoose". Anybody know what model bike it would have been installed on? Was the 44 tooth sprocket more common? Or is it acceptable to have a 40 tooth on an old motomag?
