Okay, so Jimmy Levan actually did this gap back in 1998 first. But the Austin Church Gap is a force to be reckoned with. I don't think I've ever seen someone blow out ALL their spokes..... This and the white wall in Richmond are just INSANE.

he did make make it, just destroyed his wheel in the process. and what about his bars? think that was from the gap, or throwing the bike after? i never got that with new school-- why do so many guys throw thier bikes? i love my bike.
I wish I could still see vimeo at work.

haha.. yeah, I was kidding about the clips. I think he failed because he slingshotted the start.
I bet the bars broke from the hissy fit. but, he DOES hold his wrist for a sec...

That wheel EXPLODED! That was nuts. I wonder why all the big hitters of street have not tried to hit this?
Garrett Reynolds are you listening?

Whats the "white wall"? Yeah if he wouldn't have thrown his bike after seeing his blown out rim those bars would have been fine.
The spot in Richmond I'm talking about is a concrete transition, maybe 4' tall, in a large parking lot against a steep hill. There's another parking lot at the top of the hill. There is (or was, I haven't been there in years) a maybe 5' high fence at the TOP of the hill separating the 2nd lot from the steep hill down to the first lot. The transition is good for little lip tricks and such, but when I was there for the '99 Bicycle Stunts comp there, Rob Tibbs, Kagy, and Voelker were all jumping out of the transition, going what seemed like at least 16' up and maybe 10'-15' over, clearing the fence, and landing in the lot. Rob had a back cover ad in Ride bitd just clearing it. Kagy pulled a barspin over it, and Voelker blew away everyone and lookback 360'ed over it. If the spot is still there I'm sure lots of other crazy stuff has happened over it. I just remember looking at it and thinking "How would anyone get it in their head that it's even POSSIBLE to make it over it?" It seemed just way, way too far.
It's basically a giant flyout jump. Not nearly as crazy as the ACG, but still crazy.

Throw your bike???? Listen to your seniors. Respect your equipment, without it you are nothing.
That's right, I said seniors, I'm 33 and proud of it!

He didnt "make it" hence the tacod rim from slamming the edge of the other side. Had he actually pedaled and "made it", his wheel would have been fine.

I have been there and see it in person. Even though his wheel blew up, it is burly. He definatly knows how to pedal (you would have to, to be able to get that far). It could have been way worse.

I was actually being facetious when I said he didnt know how to pedal, but he clearly wasnt going fast enough. He tries it on just 8 pedals. I cleared 7 trash cans laying down bitd, but I started halfway up the block, and probably goin twice as fast as he was.
I dont doubt he knows how to pedal, nor do I doubt his skill or insanity. His rim blowing up wasnt from some massively insane stunt he pulled off, instead it was from doing what kids have been doing since the very first bunyhopped curb. He came up short.

Holy crap, I used to skate that place all the time when I was at school VCU. Have not not been back since 92' so couldn't tell you if it's still there.

Garrett Reynolds and other younger riders haven't tried this on video because Levan owns it. I don't know if he's done it more than once, but, like the original poster says, he did it in '98.
I guarantee he broke those bars on the gap. I'm not too into the bike throwing thing either, but I think one reason kids throw their stuff nowadays is that it generally stands up to hissy fits.
That gap is f-in insane. To even pedal at that thing on a chicken run would make me wet myself.

just watchedit, first off that is sick, but looked to me like he came up a few inches short with the back wheel
landing flat would not have blown that wheel out the way it did
same thing with the bars, if they could have made it across that gap with the landing he just put the bike through, they would not have snapped the way the did during his hissy fit
sick gap for sure, wouldn't think of ever trying it myself
and to think how many of these guys are doing this stuff w/o brakes and even a cheap-o helmet is beyond
i'm just not hardcore enough i guess

He bent his bars when he threw his bike.
I'm 100 percent sure of that.
Really stupid on his part.
I think I'm going to try that because he didn't look like he was going that fast at all.

No doubt. The bike landed right on that bar when he threw it. It wasnt bent right after the crash.
I think this gap looks scarier than it really is. The take off is twice as high as the landing. Maybe 3 times as high. Sure it is a long stretch but with that kind of elevation difference, speed is all you need to clear it.
Try it the other direction, then I'll be impressed

ya, you guys are right
if you pause it at 1:20 ish... you can see it wasn't broke yet
but what an idiot, his hissy fit just cost him an extra $70, not that he wasn't out a couple hundred on the rear wheel already

A couple hundred? DANG! I'd sell him a really nice rim for just $20.00. As well as handlebars for another $20.00. A couple hundred for a rim, I know I'm new but-

well.. a new rim is $50-70 dependant on what you go with, you'd still have to buy all new spokes and nipples and who know what he actually did to that axle and/or hub shell
and then he has to pay someone to re-lace the wheel if he can't also
the hub MIGHT be saved, looked ok in the video but upon further inspection??
and if you want to sell me a new pair of slams for $20 pm me right away, i'll take a few of them

If the handlebars broke that easy when he threw it, then they would have no doubt broken on the next big gap he tried! Chances are they cracked on the gap or were getting there.

We`re talking sponsored riders here. I would bet a month`s pay his little fit didn`t cost him a red cent. FS riders get WAY more flow than racers from the hardware companies. It`s not a bad thing

Rode with Lucas Porzio in Riverside last weekend where he was spec'ing a gap to wall that looks crazy. This was taken from just the middle section alone. The top section is just nuts because of the gap to wall and the speed you'd hit before you hit that grass.

Lucas aint new school... lol. I havent seen him in a looooong while, but my bro Brian just spent about 3 months in Phoenix.... hit a bunch of stuff. If that was right side, OH man I would fire that up.... nice, so nice, and much more my style than grinds or manual to whips off curbs.... lol.
