Because Haro retro remakes are overbuilt heavy tanks! When I bought my 2006 Sport remake I freaked that it weighed 35 lbs! Low class heavy pegs, seatpost, heavy seat, alloy pedals, and then I just didn't like the color combinations... After changing out my parts my 06 Sport weighs around 32 lbs - kinda heavy!

So if Haro continues to make these Retro remake Specials - deck them out with the lightest best parts and quit making the F & F SO HEAVY!

I skipped this auction because man, I'm just interested in the Frame, fork, and handlebar of that bike. Everything else on it is just HEAVY JUNK!

I meet some kids at the bike shop with their HEAVY Haros and they can't do a trick because their bike is such a tank!

Dang dude, why allways so negative? scratch_one-s_head.gif

I'm the one selling the bike.. That baby is sick. Ask anybody.. Sure it may not be the lightest bike, it's the same as any other bike.. If anybody has interest, the price is $650.00.. The is not your average bike, this is the 25th Haro edition...
GR8BNDINI
I had had feeling that this was yours Jerry, its one slick ride my man.

Uh, heavy, ok I got it......

That bike is not that heavy, maybe your just weak....KOP kicks azz 680 is cheap..very cheap..im really suprised it did not sell....And this bike is better than the retros cause its all chromo so it lighter than those mild steel counterpart retros.
King of Pipeline
I was very surprised it didn't sell either.. I relisted it one more time.... I may even bring it to Rockford.. to sell.....
The bikes are the sickest.. As you know,I just have too many of them... BUt I love these bikes.. # 141

I'm saying it's heavy just by looking at it and because my 2006 Haro Sport retro remake #60 of 1000 was 35 lbs stock after I weighed it on a calibrated scale. Then I changed out the pedals, seatpost, seat, pegs, grips, seat clamp, tires, and put a wireless bike computer on it and it came out to 32 lbs after lotsa work and $$$... After this experience I said not another retro remake with junk parts...

I'd maybe buy the F & F and handlebars from you for $300, the rest of the bike is just junk... Or maybe I should just spend $1800 on a custom built 19.8lb Eastern Grim Reaper 2 project bike!

Initially, yeah, I would have been interested in the bike!

Can you get the total weight of the auction bike and post it here and on the auction?

Heavy 35 lb bikes suck for freestyle!
superjeer
this thread just made me realize I could retro my 1998 Chrome Mirra... I bet stricker sets that fit are hard to come by though, eh?

I tried to get mine as light as I can, but there is only so much you can do with a frame that weighs 6lbs 1oz. and then compromising the look. 30lbs is what I get it at as complete set up. Other then that I ride faster and use the momentum and muscle to move that thing around. Since riding my 09 Retro Freestyler and coming from my Eastern Grim Reaper that weighs 5lbs less then that. I ride the heavier bike better for some reason. Thats not coming from me but from my riding buddies. I just tell them that I go faster, and I kind of like the extra weight expecially at a skatepark like Cunningham because its a big skatepark. Thats my 2cents! Now here are my Retro's!

My Eastern and my Haro Retro Freestyler

So you dont really care for kneesavers huh? smile.gif
Man everytime I see one of the new Haro Freestyler retros I feel sad. I wanted one so bad until... well you know...
iluvretrobmx2
Ok, here's my 06 Haro Sport before and after shots...

Yeah, I'm a weight weenie because I can do real high bunnyhops on my 28 to 30 lb Hutches but why does that disappear on my 32+ lb bmx bikes [like my Haro, GT, and Schwinn].

Original 35 lb tank

After all my mods in final configuration --

By Jesse69

This final configuration 06 Sport gets a lot of stares, attention, and admiration. I still freestyle on it but my practice bikes are my 08 GT Performer and my chrome 83 Hutch...

I don't buy any bike to "hang on a wall!" I ride them all! Like my collector show bike Blue Hutch Trickstar!

I ain't gonna waste money on a $640 Haro White retro that's a tank! I'm gonna custom build a new Eastern Grim Reaper 2 with lightweight but strong parts! Total cost $1830, but weighes 19.8lbs with front and rear brakes! [If all mfg weights are correct].

Don't really care for them at all! biggrin.gif I had to get a Retro Freestyler! Stripped the whole thing and rebuild it with my favorite parts. Only thing that came with bike is..
seat clamp
Bottom bearings
fork and head seat.

I did change fork to Haro Race fork, but I started to bend dropouts. So went on the fork that it came with, but I grinded fork out to 14mm. 3/8's in the end is to weak for me.

I got my Eastern down to 25lbs. and could have gotten it lighter but that would have affected my riding. If I switched out Kneesavers bars, all 4 pegs front, front brakes and changed levers. I'm sure I would have dropped a few more pounds, but 25-30lbs range is all right with me.

Hmmm honestly I dont see how 2 pounds ( you say you hutch is 30 lbs and the haro is 32 lbs now) could really make that big of a difference in bunnyhops. I bet it has something to do with a difference in geometry. The new bikes are waaaayyyy different in geometry, longer front ends, shorter back ends etc. Not saying weight doesnt change anything or isn't a factor, but from your post your ability "disappears" on the new school bikes. Would 2 pounds really make that happen? Now 5 to 10 lbs I can see a difference. There is soooo much that goes into how a bike rides not just the weight. For example one of my heaviest bikes I ever owned was one of the best riding bikes and my currently bike is significantly lighter but I just dont feel 100% on it. I have yet to figure out why. It is built with all top drawer parts but I have just never settled in on it.

You know if you really wanted to know you could easily drop another 2 to 3 pounds of that sport. Switch to the KHE foldable park tires, that would drop about a pound, change the cranks for some light ones like flys, that would easily be another half to a full pound (the factory haro cranks are tanks) switch to a pivitol post and seat, at least half a pound. And if you really want to get picky switch the pegs to something light like G-sport plegs or the eastern slit pegs. Having 4 steel pegs is rather heavy. You should easily be able to drop a pound from switching those. The final thing you could try would be change the forks and bars. The haro forks are serious tanks. This sould easily get your sport into the same range as your old school bikes and then you would know if it was the weight or the new school geo.

It will be interesting to see when you get the Eastern done how it works for you. From what I have seen there comes a point for alot of people where a super light bike becomes counter productive. However for some it helps.

Yeah well as far as the retro freestyler goes I love the look of yours but even that is not enough to sway me. Unless I find one for a super cheap and I mean SUPER CHEAP I wont be getting one. I hear ya on the 14mm front axles thing, I have yet to make the jump to 3/8ths in the front again. I do alot of ramp peg stuff and I am not exactly svelte or a smooth rider. I have head some of the newer female design 3/8 front hubs are just as strong (G-Sport Marmoset etc.) so I might try one of those on my next new school bike. However right now I am not spending cash on anything (darn economy) other than when I find the odd part for my 85 master restoration. (Why do redline 400 series cranks and diacompe hinged seatclamps have to be so freaking expensive!!!! ARGH! smile.gif )

I got my Retro Freestyler for a good deal at the bike shop and couldn't pass on it. (darn economy is right!) I owed taxes this year so I did the layaway plan and had them hold that Retro, and paid a little at a time. Thats how I did it.

I have no interest in either parties here but why are today's bikes so heavy? I can remember having a Redline Proline down to 20lbs, 3 oz., a Boss that weighed in at 19 lbs 2 oz., and a JMC that was 16lbs 4 oz (too light IMO). It just seems to me that a 20 to 23 lbs bike shouldn't be that hard to build, but if a frame is plus 6 lbs, that ain't gonna happen

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the top tubes on the old Hutches and Haros about 18" or 19" while the new bikes (not sure about the retro Haros) have 21" head tubes? Could the modern geometry be part of the reason you might be having problems bunnyhopping on them? Just curious.

Maybe it was because you said the box was unopened but you had a picture of the bike out of the box? They might think you're trying to pull a fast one or something. Just an idea.

Aren't those all race bikes as well? My Hawk F20 with SE Landing Gears and Elf Blast bars is extremely light, but that is a 21.75" aluminum frame. Freestyle frames are heavier in general because they are often built with more reinforced tubing.

That is what I think his problem is. I have my original freestyle rider from BITD and I can hop that thing quick and high. However, it is an '89 Dyno Detour with Dyno Pretzel bars and an 18.5" top tube. My modern street/freestyle bike is a '99 Standard STA with a 20.75" top tube and 26" wide 8" tal bars, and I can only hop it half as high. However, my Standard is why more stabile in the air which means I need to build up my upper body strength more so that I can pull it higher. I'd also like to add that my Standard weighs close to the same as my Dyno...
