to stick or not to stick?

I have come to the point where its time to tear down the Tripower and freshen her up a bit. I have a couple of small part changes to make but mainly just a good polishing and cleaning. Heres my dilemma, when I decided to restore her about 5 years ago (after sitting in the garage and attic since I quit riding in 1984) she was nekked. I was able to come across a couple of complete sticker sets, 1 original and 1 that had been repoped. The repop was decent so I used it not wanting to touch the original set. Well after 5 years of dragging her around to the shows and vintage races (yes she still gets dirty) the stickers have seen better days, coming up, scratched and fading.

Do I leave her nekked and let her beauty shine, (leaving the original set in a display for show only) or do I use the original set and cover her up?

I being a fan of the nekked look am leaning towards no stickers but just wanted to hear some thoughts from my Vintage bros.

I say, throw another set of repops on there!

Id prolly put the NOS ones on there and plan on being ALOT more careful hauling it around. You cant take em with you when ya die!

aluv I've had that thought but I haven't seen or heard anyone making any. I have checked into having mine repoped locally thru my signmaker but setup charges (which I know are the major expense) were crazy high and I heard a little dought in her voice as far as quality so I stepped away from that.

Well it might be worth it if there's a market for them. As for her response, I don't blame you, especially when it comes to a high expense like that.

The unique design of the frame speaks for itself and anyone who sees it knows what they are looking at. So, if you like it without stickers, I say leave 'em off. Especially if you are going to give it some use and scratch them. Just knowing you have an NOS set makes it alright! biggrin.gif You can always put on a set of repros if you decide to make them. Frame the originals and display them with the bike.

I agree with Madcowboy, use them for what they were made for..and enjoy..
I am all for leaving parts in original wrappers until they have a spot on a bike..

Seems like this topic is almost split down the middle.

I agree with 76 Mongeese on this one - I think I'm going to strip her down and show her naked for the time being and frame the original sticker set along with my original jersey.

Leave the decals that are on it now and ride it like you used to! biggrin.gif

I think it is a good call not using the original stickers. If it were something you were actually just going to display and not enjoy( uhh I mean ride) I could see putting the original decal set on it. These were meant to be ridden and I have much less desire to own any NOS parts than I used to. After all, they are only NOS once!
