Im trying to get back up to speed again(its been since the 80's) Im building a 86 GT Pro Performer and I just need to know the differences in the Gyro/Gyro 2/Gyro3. I have a 1" head as you all know. So which Gyro will work? What cables do I need It seems there are XL and other sizes. So whoever knows the set up I need...please share. Thanks

Gyro = 1985 then a Different Decal on 1987

Which size (length) front and rear cables for the 86 GT? I have a original gyro, it just looks like crap, thought maybe there was a model I could replace it with....

I am doing the same. I am building a 1990 GT and my Gyro is OK but I do not want to put all new parts on it and have an old battered up Gyro. You need the 1 inch type, I believe I posted a link to them. They are tough to find. The 1-1/8th are too big. I believe you also need a universal lower back cable and a medium upper, which fits most bars.

a 1986 pro performer did not come with a gyro. gyro's did not come out until 1987. the gyro 2 was a later version not sure on the year, but the lead ends on the cables were different and the holes on the plates were different.. the gyro 3 is a newer version you can still buy them in stores and its pretty much the same as the gyro 2. they are available in 1" or 1-1/8" now...

Im not going too hardcore on exact build specs, I know the 86's didnt have Gyro's Im just puttn one on it. I had an ACS rotor and I remember hating that thing. In your last sentence you say they are still available in 1" is that jsut the original gyro or do the make a gyro 2 in 1"? Thanks bud

look up dans competition online. they have both sizes of gyro 3 still available brand new. if its just to ride a gyro 3 will work nicely. you may wanna measure how long you think the top cable should be, most of the newer bikes take short ones so you may have to buy a longer front cable to go with it.

I looked at Dans Comp and did not see a 1" so put this number: 270406858788 in ebay search block, I just bought one, you can do the same or wait and I will tell you if its the real deal, it cost right at $20, its coming from the UK but for $20 its worth the gamble.

htttrh,

dude how thrashed is your gyro? Why not resto it, instead? If it's just the upper plate and bottom that are lookin' tired, just clean up and spray bomb. That way you can keep it white. I've also seen decals on eBay that match up with the original logo for the front. I'm doing a similar build, btw. Let me know if you need help.
