I wish Skyway would do this! I wish they'd make their Graphite Mags in WHITE too! I'm just not buying a black pair for my Blue Hutch Trickstar, 88 Haro Master, 06 Haro Sport, and 83 Hutch Pro modded for freestyle! Black is a clashing color that would make these bikes UGLY! What a bunch of boneheads that they don't think about WHITE GRAPHITES!
Besides, how much do Graphite Skways weigh? Front? Rear?
My white regular sealed bearing Skyways roll SO FAST though, ... makes my Trickstar my fastest bmx bike!
And then Skway should make and sell an updated TA F & F with 1 1/8 headset, gyro tabs, and 990 mount front and rear!
DON'T YOU WANT WHITE GRAPHITES TOO?

Ouch, that's a little harsh considering SHADES is right. The reason you've never seen white or colored graphites is because the color of the graphite is dark grey. Yes, they used to put the gold flanges on white (and colored) Tuffs, but those Tuffs weren't graphites unfortunately.

They are supposed to be minus the gyro tabs, & 990s. They will use canti-mounts instead since it is a race bike.

That is correct. It's impossible to make a graphite Tuff Wheels any other color but black. Graphites are made with carbon fiber composite, which is a dark gray color. Black pigment is added to darken the color.
And before you mention that Peregrine made colored Graphites- they really didn't. Although they sold wheels advertised as "Graphite Composite", in various colors- there was nothing "graphite" about them. Peregrine was sued for false advertising of that product, and lost.
Graphites can ONLY be made in one color..... Black.

Canti-mounts totally suck! I modded my 2000 PK Ripper with canti-mounts and a gyro and the rear brake action totally stinks!
I wouldn't buy a TA remake if it used canti-mounts either.
I like turning some race bikes into freestyle bikes because they are lighter. Did that with my 83 Hutch Pro and 2000 PK Ripper.
There are white composite spacers and white composite stuff made for road bikes. Maybe Skyway should just experiment and search for white composite material fibers for their composite Tuffs.
It'd be totally hot to get white composite Skyways! - As long as these wheels are light and roll fast!
Maybe I'd have to paint a black composite pair?

all those white road parts (and a few frames) are just a non-structural, decorative top layer. the structural part is still black underneath.

There are structural white composite spacers out there! Check out this web page!
http://www.wcfanshop.com/servlet/the-Carbo...ents/CategoriesMaybe it's hard to source white composite fibers from places like this?

You're talking about composite carbon fiber, not graphite. Besides, trying to shape carbon fiber into the shape of a Skyway Tuffwheel would be pretty difficult I would think, not to mention waaaaaayy too expensive.

Then maybe you should get in the business of manufacturing and selling white graphite composite wheels.

You know I see you point but I think a retro T/A "dirt jumping" frame with 990s would be a sweet new school ride. Many freestylers used T/As back in the day and it would be cool if Ed offered a few of the new retro T/As with the option. I know I would snap one up and considering how so many of todays new school dirt/freestyle frames are close to racing frames I think it would be a great idea. Considering the fact that the new TAs are welded "in house" (correct me if I am wrong here) I dont think it should be too hard. Ed do you have any input on this?
Seriously hoping a for a retro with 990s and a cassette set of tuffs...

chainstay 990s are the best brakes for bmx. they are more out of the way and allow a bit of leverage, while still doing their job.
v-brakes are too agressive, when set up properly.
learned this the hard way.

being we'll be doing these in small batches, there's always the possibility of doing some different, as long as the main frame jig doesn't change shape. Adding 990 mounts shouldn't be that big of a deal.... We'll see....

Thanks for the quick response Ed. I do have some other questions if you have a min...
I I thought I had head something about a new school T/A coming once you got the aold school ones done. Is this true? Are the new T/As going to be new school geometry, internal headset, etc? Have you heard anything new on the cassette tuffs?

You can make a smaller "plug" mold for black graphite, then insert this "plug" into the mold when you shoot white nylon [?] for the white Skyways? So maybe there would be a .10" layer of white nylon over a graphite plug? - Has Skyway experimented over a technique like this?
Back in the 80's there were Skyway "Bolt Ons" to make a TA a freestyle bike. I think Scottie Freeman was in the Ad? I wonder if the TA had good geometry to be a freestyle bike? If it can bunnyhop well it's ok enough. Then it needs good geometry so it doesn't feel "funky." Removable gyro tabs are a +. Yeah, 990 mounts are some of the best brakes...
How much did the Tuff 2 mold cost?
And does anyone know how much Graphites weigh?
