I know a lot of people, myself included, regard Martin A. as one of the best flatlanders all time. A lot of us have also been wondering what ever happened to him.. is he bitter about freestyle etc..
Well... I can personally say, after meeting him this past weekend at a big bmx event in CA, that the guy is doing great, looks great, and is in no way bitter about the past. He seemed to have a blast seeing all the old bikes and old friends. He even got out on someone's bike and was trying some old tricks. Who knows, maybe he'll become a regular at these things now.
It was great to finally meet him. Here I am with tow of the all time greats.. Martin and Woody.

I'm really glad Martin showed up. It had been close to 10 years since I had seen him. I had only talked to him a few times over the years, so I was just as happy to see him as most of you were. Hopefully there will be some vintage flatland sessions in the future for us, just like the old days. Even better, he has a little boy, very close in age to my son. I hope to get them together soon so they can play together. That's one thing I wouldn't have thought about 25 years ago. Woody

Ha, yep, you're right. Martin and Woody were both breakers. They actually appeared in an 80's movie starring Lorenzo Lamas called Body Rock. I mentioned to both of them that I'd heard Lamas was pitching a script for Body Rock 2, LOL. Amazingly, neither of them had heard the rumour, ha. Seriously though rent Body Rock if you can find it. They are both in there.

Martin is the reason I spent so much time on a bike. I remember well the first time I saw him at a show in our hometown. Too cool.
After that, each time he would hit up Raleigh, he would always seem to be looking out for me. I always picked up a few tricks from him each year he came to town.
Super great guy. Me, and him in 1988 at flyth schwinn shop in Raleigh NC.

Holy Cow...what a cool gig that must have been.
Give us some pics...posted here with names so we can get star struck in front of our monitors....
Now, the news that we are all waiting for .....what has Martin been doing since BMX ? Why has it been such a mystery ?? Did anyone ask him these pressing questions?? It has been all over the Vintage BMX message boards, on all the sites...so ....what the deal yo?

What a cool, cool deal. So good to see Martin - hopefully he will join the VBMX family.
Woody's and Martin's kids playing together - that's what's about it's all about.
Woody - you need to get the kids some bikes and you and Martin train them up.

Did he look rusty when he was trying some old tricks? Did he say if he still rides for fun all these years? Now the circle is complete! All of the old school greats have been located and are doing well. Great to see.

Oh yeah.. he borrowed Robert Castillo's bike and immediately started trying some tricks again. It looked like he was getting comfortable pretty quick. He commented to me that the lower top tube designs of the new frames were throwing him off. He was used to having somewhere to stand or land his feet. He was clearly having a blast!
He got a kick out of the fact that everyone thought his absense meant he was bitter. I even filmed a little clip asking him that exact question LOL.
I'll get the videos up real soon.

To me it just seems like life got in the way. He has a son, was in a motorcycle accident awhile back, but man, he did look like he had a great time seeing old faces, getting back on a bike.. heck, he even got on the mic for a bit too.
