My next door neighbor has had this old californian/expert laying beside his house for 2 years just laying out in the rain. Its right next to my driveway, so I literally have looked at this bike for 2 years just laying there. Ive asked him 7 or 8 times if he wanted to sell it and he always said..."I cant its my grandsons" who lives 400 miles away and hasnt been around in 2 or 3 years. Its not really a great bike, it has crappy parts on it but its just always bothered me that an old mongoose is just sittin there in the rain day in and day out. ..anyway. So i come home yesterday and guess who i see playing in the neighbors yard? Yep, the grandson. I called him over and asked him if hed sell me that bike layin beside his granpas house. He said "you can have that piece of crap!"

Well, I couldn't live with myself for taking it for free (even though Ive thought about stealing it many times) so i gave him 20 bucks and told him thanks. So, finally, after 2 years and 20 bucks here she is. I dug her out of the pile of junk (yeah that was bothering me too) and took her into some much needed shelter where she will prolly get a nice ox bath and a polishing massage. The ol girl will prolly spend the rest of her life hanging upside down in my or someone elses garage instead of the rain now. She deserves it, i think.

also pulled out some aluminum or magnesium mag with a freewheel on it. Not sure the brand but worth a snag i thought

Definitely worth saving. I remember you mentioning the mongoose some time ago...good to know you scored it. Looks like it held up fairly well to have been out in the rain that long. Some cleanup and you're ready to go! Oh, the stem cap is on backwards. biggrin.gif

Hope grandpa isn't mad because the boy sold it out from under him...grandpa was just working you to get the most for it...then little Johnny comes along and prctically gives it away! laugh.gif

Is that wheel metal? Not sure of what you have there.
MadCowboy
lol i meant to turn that stem cap around before I took the photos and just forgot! busted tongue.gif

yeah, that mag isnt plastic. I feels like an old lester mag but i dont think those ever came out with a freewheel like that. Maybe they did. i dunno...i need to clean it up and inspect it further.

Great score mate!

That mag looks similar to this...

MadCowboy
it sure does. is it metal too? that one looks like plastic.
Volcano
Not sure? I think it is plastic. Found that pic while searching the net (not my wheel).
It does look very similar though hey!

A well spent 20 bucks. The frame, fork, bars, stem, and head set are easily worth that or more good3.gif

after further inspection, the mag i have is plastic. It feels and sounds like metal when ya tap it but looking under the tire it looked and felt like plastic. That mag you posted is most likely the kind i have.
